I love stopping in to any restaurant thatās part of Peter Changās group of restaurants, whether itās a Peter Changās, Ni Hao, Mam Changs, etc⦠That style of Chinese food is one of my favs. So, when visiting the area I came in for lunch on a Monday.
Getting there around 1PM they had several table sat, which I was surprised to see, yet very happy to see too! It meant that there are others who value really good, Authentic Chinese food and flavors.
I started with their cucumbers and asked for them to be spicy. Once they arrived, I have to say I was disappointed as they were fresh, but there was hardly any flavor to them at all and the āsauceā in the bottom of the dish wasnāt actually tossed in with the cucumbers, rather they were just sat on top and the flavors were on the bland side. They also just tossed a bunch of whole cilantro on top, rather than pulling the leaves and chopping those and mixing them in, which is how the dish should have been served.
Next up was their egg drop soup⦠yeah, itās an American-Chinese item, but itās a fav of mine and it came with the lunch item I ordered, which is the only reason I got it. It tasted great! I could tasted the freshness of all ingredients in it, but the fried wonton pieces that came with it were beyond horribly stale ā NASTY! Those should never be served! My local, Fredericksburg Peter Changs (before they recently closed down) served amazing, fresh fried noodles to accompany soup. This is a management/chef issue that needs to be corrected with this location!!
Next was the spicy chicken with peppers and onions⦠They were good, but far from spicy and definitely was missing some umami flavor Iām used to in this dish, from when I get it at other locations. I also tried their beef with three peppers⦠It came out looking not very authentic, rather quite āAmericanā as it was saucy and resembling the beef from beef & broccoli. Flavor was ok, but far from what Iāve had with this particular dish in the past, which was very disappointing.
Overall ā service was nice. The food was too Americanized, which I suspect was why I saw so many people in there. Reviews for any authentic (Pakistani, Chinese, etc) place are typically mid-low level as most who use these review/social media sites are clueless as to what the food is actually supposed to taste like. Iāll give this place a 3, but for authenticity it deserves a 2. Would I return, nope, there are too many places to try in the...

The entrees were decent. The Fried rice that comes with the entree was average, nothing special. We ordered a dish that is supposed to have the flame under the pot, but it was brought out without the sterno. We were told food is hot still, almost defensive about why it's ok to not have the flames.
Server eventually brought out the sterno so that the dish can be warmed on the table as it should have been. I guess the owners are trying to skimp on the sterno but increase food prices simultaneously? Why else would we order a dish that is described as being served in a heated pot?
The defective teapot leaked half of tea on table which was explained to waitress. The tea was average at best. They seemed to not want to put too much tea leaf to provide full flavor. Received bill charging $6 per cup of tea person, so for two people it was $12 for hot water with a sprinkle or dash of tea leaves.
Guang Dong Taste in Virginia Beach is generous with their tea leaves and charges $1 for much better tea per person! Atmosphere is nice. Food is excellent too.
The waitress says many people complain about the tea price, and she has told owner the complaints. She says she does not own the restaurant, but she could have told the customers tea is $6 if that is a chronic complaint she is receiving. It's not apparent on the menu.I thought I was at Four Seasons hotel getting a gourmet or specialty cup of tea for a second!
She still received an 18 percent tip but I am not going there again and will tell anyone I know to go to Guang Dong Taste for good authentic Chinese food that charges 5-6 times less for a cup of hot water with a sprinkle...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and my friends we had gone to this place to eat food between 3:45pm to 5:30pm on 5/06/2024. We have been to this place many many times and we love it. This time was our worst experience and the service was bad horrible. We found a long hair in one of our dish and we showed it to the waitress. She said I am sorry and took it. We thought they would replace the dish but didnāt not. When we received the bill. She charged us for the dish. When my friend asked her. She said oh well youāll eat from it and maybe the hair is of my 6year daughter pointing at her. She also mentioned that she would not mind eat the dish with the hair. When we ask for a food manager she said there is no manager and she is the only one. I donāt understand that how they can run without the food manager on duty. Even when my kids got the fortune cookie since they already knew from where to get and counted all of us one each. She told them youāll already got so many common. After when we paid and left she cane behind us almost till our car outside. She said hey you guys can you tip me it was a big table. You guys and cheap and very rude. They can check on the cameras she coming out the door behind us. How can you tips a person who gives you attitude and horrible service. She was a young lady wearing a face mask. Me and my family will never go to this place again and will also tell all my friends and family just for...
