Don’t waste your time and money ($175) at the Virginia Beach Field House for any basketball programs offered there because its a joke. They peddle this beginner/intermediate basketball program but in reality what you are paying for is an overpriced gym class led by a high schooler who do not know what he is doing and cannot single-handedly control a group of 12-15 kids. That’s unfair to that “coach” and our kids. I hate saying that but it’s the truth, and for the price and name that’s comes with the Virginia Beach Field House brand they should be embarrassed peddling this program. Staff does not care, no returned emails or phone calls. They hide in their offices when you ask the front desk staff to get a hold of them. Into week 5 of the “Three Pointers” I attempted to get a hold of the youth programs coordinator and the general manager. I also sent an email of my disappointment. Citing that I have been very disappointed with the coaching of the Three Pointers class. The explained website description of this class does not match what is actually happening. “This class is designed to teach the basic elements of basketball, for beginner and intermediate players. Each week will introduce several new, key basketball skills. The players will continue to work on their ball-handling every week, and review their previously learned skills. Class will also incorporate teamwork, sportsmanship, childhood development games and game-like situational drills. Throughout the season, players will put all their newly learned skills into scrimmages.”
No scrimmages, no actual coaches or coaching, no calisthenics, no ball handling, no drills, no dribbling, no learning how to guard their opponent. They start off just shooting baskets, followed by playing tag and running around. Parents who care or know what’s going on have to remind the “coach” each time to raise the hoop. There’s never been a consistent 2-coach team getting to know the players, assess their skill level, give directions on what to work on or pick up where they left off. Be prepared to waste you time and money if you enroll your kid in this program.
I would give the rating a zero...
Read morei reserved our party weeks in advance. written down were details of our school bus themed party: yellow, yellow, yellow. when we arrived the day of the party, it was to be told that the cake was wrong, that my message of changing the icing color hadn't been passed on to the appropriate person and that the cake had been written on which had been specified to not be done and in green. i was able to call harris teeter who makes the cakes for these parties and the VERY NICE lady there was able to make me a new cake with my specifications before the party even began. my point: if i could do this, so could the field house. i shouldn't have had to do this. when we got upstairs to our room, the balloon color was assorted, not yellow. while these details may seem silly and insignificant to others, they were a big deal to me and they were WRITTEN down on our party details sheet. why write down what you want if it isn't going to be followed? we had two party attendants, one for the field and one for the room. while they were both good, the girl who handled the room was phenomenal. every thing we needed, she took care of. i was two coloring sheets short for the goodie bags. not only did she make the copies for me, i later saw she had added them to the goodie bags. my only issue with the party room set up, i had to ask for a lot of things that should have already been set up, should have been available in the room: a cake knife especially since they provided the cake, plates and cups for the adults (just the kids' table was set up), and utensils for the fruit tray and chicken nuggets, both provided by the field house. when i took the tour of the facility, i was also told two employees would be watching/overseeing the play gym section. on the day of the party, there wasn't anyone in there except parents...well hopefully they were parents. when i reserved the party, they seemed eager to please yet on the day of the party, i def came away with an "oh well, sorry for you luck" mentality. disappointed in how issues were handled, well actually...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place for your child to learn the fundamentals of cheerleading as offered through the field house’s little flyers program, this may not be the place for you. I enrolled my daughter in their 10 week program. The website advertised drills and skill building, along with an introduction to “cheer terminology, tumbling concepts, and different skills.” This was not our experience whatsoever. I originally purchased the package and was later told I overpaid and offered a “credit” to my account as they do not offer refunds. Next, the first practice was cancelled 30 minutes prior to the start of class due to “staffing issues.” When classes did resume, it was just my daughter and another child. Two weeks later, practice was cancelled again due to a lacrosse tournament. I was also notified less than an hour before this practice as well. When I spoke with the coordinator via email she first explained that the tournament was scheduled and that practice on this date was never intended. I however never received any correspondence regarding this. When I expressed my frustration with the program for lack of accountability I was told no refunds could be issued. I did do my research however and in the fine print it does state that any class with 2 or less participants could be issued another class or refund. I then contacted the coordinator again stating the policy along with requesting her supervisors name and number to which I stopped receiving replies. I then had to call the front desk for contact information for a general manager. It was after that I was able to reach the general manager, where I requested a refund and was granted one. I am however very disappointed in the field house and will not recommend in the future. We had such high hopes but I have since unenrolled my child and will take my business elsewhere. Do...
