Plaza Azteca has always been a fallback type restaurant. I could always count them providing a great dining experience without killing the wallet. Unfortunately, not everything lasts forever.
I used to be chimichanga guy, like since the 90s, but recently taco salad has been my thing. This particular night I ordered the Fajita Taco Salad. Having ordered it previously, I knew what was in it, yet the menu listing was identical to their regular taco salad, except listed grilled chicken or grilled steak, instead of ground beef or pulled shredded chicken. So, new menu.
When we sat down, they provided the warm tortilla chips and only the red salsa, we had to specifically ask the for the white salsa. Our local white salsa is house made, and the closest thing is Taco Bell Baja Sauce, but 1000x better. The tradition of the local white salsa goes back to the 80s; a food type article is online about it. Imagine having to ask for cheddar bay biscuits at Red Lobster. He eventually brought it to the table.
A few weeks ago I ordered a taco salad to go, something I have never done, and it was smaller than usual. I know this because I usually have to take half home in a to-go container, and the shell is too tall for the container. This time when I ordered it, it looked small on the plate, and I ate the whole thing. At least it did have the grilled peppers and onions it was supposed to come with, so the menu was incorrect in its description. It also seemed to be light on the amount of ingredients.
The three of us finished and the server was more concerned about cleaning the restaurant than bussing our table or refilling drinks. I had to eventually ask for the bill. I never look at prices because most local Mexican fare provides great food at great value. As I previously stated, nothing lasts forever. Hindsight being 20/20, the newly printed menus should have been a clue. I paid the bill, let the tip reflect my gratitude in the servers ability to accomplish the very basics of his...
Read moreManager, RONALD MARTINEZ should be fired. Plaza Azteca on Holland Road is the worst location. We visited on 5/18/18 and had the worst dining experience. Don't waste your time and money. The food is sub par and service leaves a lot to be desired. I used to frequent the Providence Road and Jefferson Avenue locations quite frequently. The last few times at Holland Road, I was less than impressed with service and food quality is not good. If you want good service and good food this is not the place! I ordered "pollo sonora" and things went downhill when I received it. The entree was covered in a red sauce but way too much of it and the onions over powered the rubbery, tough chicken breast. I sent it back and didn't get anything else because my appetite was ruined at that point. I left to go elsewhere for real food.
My disgust came when one of my friends found a small, short piece of hair in the cheese sauce. None of us had hair that texture or that length. The manager who called himself "Francisco" argued and tried to disrespect all of us and said that one of us put the hair there. A heated exchange took place in which this person who called himself "Francisco" used inappropriate language and was very insulting. When we were at the register paying we learned this so called manager is not Francisco but is RONALD MARTINEZ. He is bad for business!! He has servers charging people for things such as lemons and his attitude is discriminatory!
I will never return to this establishment and urge others to not spend your money at...
Read moreI'd like to start by claiming that I have been going to Plaza for over 10 years now. My first experience was back around 2004 to 2005. They used to operate out of a smaller "building" back then on the same property as it is located now (South Plaza location). Since then, they have rebuilt, refurbished and grown. They had a established and earned great reputation in providing quality food and service at a reasonable price. A little over a year ago, my wife started not to enjoy going there as much due to what she called a sharp decline in how they used to operate. Their menu has changed quite a bit over the past two years, which until today I had adapted and overcome. I'll state that my favorite "go to" meal was the Steak Azteca. Today, I settled for the Supreme Burritos. It comes with one chicken and one steak (according to the print in the menu) topped with lettuce, cheese and Pico. Much to my surprise, the steak burrito turned out to be ground beef, severely disappointed. One would ask, why I didn't bring it to the attention of my waiter. I don't typically complain and rarely send food back when it is edible. It may be this location, but I'm in search for a new restaurant in the area. Hopefully, it is not due to them growing larger than what they can control in quality. We are missing the restaurant that once was great. 5 years ago, I would have given it 6 stars. Given today's experience, it earned a 2. I gave it a 3 to balance out where they are in the spectrum...
