Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach is a truly unique and impressive urban green space, especially when you consider its origins. What was once a landfill has been ingeniously transformed into a vibrant recreational hub, earning it a solid four-star rating. The most striking feature, of course, is the "mountain" itself. Climbing to the top offers surprisingly sweeping views of Virginia Beach, and it's a fantastic spot for a workout or simply to enjoy a breezy day. It's a testament to environmental ingenuity and a fantastic example of repurposing. The trails that wind around the mountain and the two lakes are well-maintained and perfect for walking, jogging, or biking. You'll often see people flying kites on the slopes, adding a touch of playful charm to the landscape. Kids Cove, the expansive playground, is a major draw for families. With its rubberized surface, a multitude of slides, climbing structures, and even a wheelchair-accessible swing, it's clear a lot of thought went into making it inclusive and fun for all ages. There are ample picnic shelters and open spaces, making it ideal for gatherings and outdoor meals. The park also boasts a popular skate park, basketball courts, and volleyball courts, ensuring there's an activity for almost everyone. The environmental aspect of Mount Trashmore is also highly commendable, particularly the Water Wise demonstration garden which showcases xeriscaping – a beautiful way to garden with minimal water. It's a subtle but important educational element within the park. While Mount Trashmore is undoubtedly a gem, there are a couple of minor points that keep it from a perfect five stars. The lack of natural shade in some of the newer playground areas can be a significant issue on hot Virginia Beach summer days. Planning your visit for cooler parts of the day or bringing your own sun protection is highly recommended. Also, while the trails are great, the sheer popularity of the park can sometimes lead to crowded paths, especially on weekends. Despite these small considerations, Mount Trashmore Park is an outstanding example of urban renewal and a wonderful asset to the Virginia Beach community. Its unique history, diverse recreational offerings, and commitment to green initiatives make it a must-visit for locals and...
Read moreMount Trashmore Park certainly does not meet up to its name. It's a very beautiful park with excellent views. Not sure why it's called Trashmore?? I feel like it should be called Wondermore or something that lives up to its name. The park has excellent views from the bottom and all the way up to the top of the hill. It has plenty of parking space and plenty of restrooms. It opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. The park is also pet friendly, so bring your doggies for a walk. Not sure if they have a strict leash law, as I saw some dogs with and without them. You can also plan a party or get together but you must contact the city to reserve. There are plenty of "shelters" as the city of VB acknowledges them. Balloons and loud music are not allowed. Why? I'm sure they have their reasons. This park is a very popular park to go walk, run or just enjoy the views. Fishing is also allowed. There are plenty of kids playgrounds around the vicinity. The only negative for me was the duck droppings, way too many. The park also had benches dedicated to individuals who had passed away. I believe there was also an area with trees that commented military individuals. Not to sure but I thought it was a great section to the park. I highly recommend yall go check out Mount Trashmore, I had a positive experience. I will definitely be going back to get my 3 mile walk/runs. Other than that, don't forget to do your part. Clean up after yourself and leave it better...
