Aahhh....where do I begin? To start, I must say I have eaten at 419 West probably a hundred times. It is our go-to spot for drinks to a celebration meal. Well...it WAS, because I am never going back. Last night, a friend and I had reservations for our favorite dinner at 419; we had been so busy over the holidays and were really looking forward to catching up at our old familiar spot. I arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation time but was seated immediately which was nice. Once I was in my seat, no one said hello or even looked at me which I found odd. No one offered me a cocktail while I was waiting for my friend to arrive, not even a glass of water. When my friend arrived about 10-15 minutes later, we chatted for close to 15 minutes and realized that it seemed as if no one knew we existed. We joked "can YOU see me?" My friend got up and went to ask the hostess what was going on. Soon after, our server came over and asked what she could get for us. We asked for water and the wine list and she said someone else should have given you the wine list, but she did bring it back to us. We ordered a bottle of wine, and she asked if we'd like to go ahead and order our food also (?) so we did because after so long we knew what we wanted. A good while later she brought us 2 glasses of wine. We said we had ordered a bottle and she actually rolled her eyes at us and picked the glasses up and walked away. When she returned some time later, she was carrying an OPEN bottle of wine with stains on the label (!) and two empty glasses. I looked at her and asked "did you really just pour that wine from before back into that bottle?" She denied it. Ha! I've never ordered a bottle of wine at 419 and it not be opened at my table. After a bit longer, my friend's salad came. Less than a minute later, our entrees came, via a food runner, not our server. My friend was still pouring her dressing onto her salad! We commented that the salad had just arrived and the food runner set down our plates and walked away. So, ok, let's eat I suppose. My steak, ordered medium, was blue rare. The knife wouldn't even cut it. We had to flag down our server because she had not checked to see if our steaks were ok. When my steak came back, much later, it was charred to a crisp on the outside and blood was running all over my plate. I just looked at my server and she, I kid you not, said "that is the butter dripping down." She did send over the manager fairly quickly, and to his credit he was understanding and polite and adjusted our bill and offered free desserts (which we declined, and now regret that decision). We didn't enjoy our experience or the food but hey it's our favorite place and they tried to make it right; it's not the end of the world and it will be better next time. I paid with cash but my friend used her card. We watched our server go to 2 registers and down the hall where the bathrooms are and take a very long time to return to our table with the card. When the receipts came back she noted that they had run her card twice, oddly once for 2 cents and again for the remainder. Well, this morning she checked her account and another additional charge was on there for an even larger amount. She goes over there and asks for clarification of what's going on, and to have it corrected, and gets completely insulted and blown off by today's manager. This isn't resolved, and our patronage at 419 West has come to an end. There will be...
Read more5 rating on this summer visit. We chose from the weekend brunch menu and were not disappointed. The omelet was fluffy but needed salt. It was probably made with 5 eggs as it was huge and very tasty, with vegetables and spinach. I would have added some cheese to bring it all together. Hash browns were good, and all the food was served very hot. Service was impeccable. Ate outside on the patio, and it was pleasant and breezy. The chairs make an unbelievably loud sound on the concrete floor, and the table was beautiful but rocked no matter how it was turned. Overall, it was a very pleasant meal in a great setting with attentive servers.
Dec 1, 2024 We went back for the delicious weekend brunch, reviewed above. Boy, what a change from this summers visit. Waitstaff seemed eager to please, but was possibly new due to some information and behaviors. We ordered water and beverages. Waitstaff had to make 2 trips bc only brought one water. Had to make another trip for the creamer for the coffee. We ordered the vegetable omlet and asked if we could have rye instead of white toast. At first, waitstaff said they were not sure if the restaurant had rye bread. Was then asked if we wanted it as a side. If the restaurant doesn't have rye, how could it be supplied as a side? Waitstaff seemed flustered, so we just consented and said just bring us what it comes with. The omelet, which at our summer visit was light, fluffy and thick with possible 4 eggs and plump with filling.. Today's omlet was grease coated and thin, probably 2 eggs, with not much filling. The Hash Browns were small ends of french fries, but the ketchup was good. Refills were brought in a timely manner. The atmosphere was somewhat dark. Think it will be awhile until we go back again.
Sept 14, 2025 Went back for the weekend brunch and ordered the same vegetable omlet with potatoes as previous visits. The meal is a value $8. The omlet was small, probably 2 eggs, with green pepper slices, spinach, muchrooms and tomatoes mixed in. It was a tad flat and greasy, and not fluffy like the first one we were served last summer. The potatoes were average but nicely seasoned. The coffee was excellent, but we waited and waited for refills, as well as for the meal. Waitstaff seemed unfocused, and not excessively busy. When the meal finally came, the gentleman serving it apologized for the wait as well as the server at her next appearance, The restaurant was very busy on our arrival at 1:30, but quickly thinned shortly thereafter. The atmosphere was pleasant, with indoor and...
Read moreRecently took my wife here for her birthday. It had been a while since we had visited this facility so I was looking forward to seeing if it still had the same reputation as before. I was very disappointed. We were shown to our table quickly and immediately I was overcome with the noise level inside the building. The acoustics are horrible to the point I gave up trying to have a conversation with my family the entire time I was there. The waitress was great, she was very attentive and cheerful which helped a great deal. We ordered an appetizer and I order a bowl of soup both of which was excellent. It was after that the dinner fell apart. My wife ordered shrimp and grits only to be informed that they had ran out of grits and they could substitute the grits for mashed potatoes. Since that was the only substitute offered it was taken. When her dish arrived it was a disaster; three shrimp, two scallops and some asparagus on a side dish and a side of mashed potatoes. This was after we were apologized to for the hour long wait because the cooks were trying to get a large party seated beside us taken care of first. Who runs out of grits on a Friday night, it's a staple item.
I was going to complain but at the behest of my wife I didn't. So, I waited to see if anyone would come check on us other than our server. No one ever did. There were two managers on duty that night and one of them came and checked on the large drunken party they was seated beside us but never stopped at our table. As I observed during my time there, I saw numerous people staggering out intoxicated some with the help of sober assistance. While the server was great and my daughter and my food was prepared and tasted good, I would not recommend this for a family. The last time I was there it was a nice place for a great moderate priced meal for the family to go and enjoy. Now it reminds me more of a mid life crisis hang out than an...
