I had such high hopes for this bakery, and I try to give businesses the benefit of the doubt especially since many places are understaffed, but this experience was so bad I feel that it is worth sharing. I've been gluten free for almost 20 years and have ordered gluten free cakes and all kinds of baked goods from bakeries here in Midlothian (Sweet Creations) and in Pittsburgh (Glutteny) and I've baked many gluten free cakes, bread, etc over the years from mixes and scratch. This is truly the worst experience I've ever had with any bakery and the cake itself was also a terrible, unappetizing disappointment. It was undercooked and gummy in places, and the order was incorrect. The website ordering was so confusing I had to call twice and even then the order was reversed. It was supposed to be chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. We got vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. My husband had to drive to the bakery three times because the order was delayed, and the bakery kindly sent home a free cupcake and bread to apologize. We all tried a taste of it last night and it was also not good. The frosting on both items was tasty, but the cake and cupcake were not sweet. Our friend who joined us for dinner last night when we tried the cupcake said it tasted a bit like unsweetened cornbread. It was truly the consistency and taste of a dinner roll with frosting on top. It was beautiful looking, but none of us, including my not-picky children, finished their taste. Today at our birthday party no one took more than a few polite bites of this terrible (and expensive…$60+) cake. I will never purchase another item from this bakery. I would recommend Sweet Creations on Hull Street or buying a boxed cake and doing it yourself if you're not comfortable making one...
Read moreIt was awesome to find a place that was dedicated gluten and dairy-free. This is a quaint bakery with classical music playing while you wait. The displays are creative and please plan to wear a mask. The owner was baking, serving and ringing up customers. She was well versed and explained to new customers different aspects of the goods. She even supplied outside resources that may be available. I found the shop on the find me gluten free app. The owner, I think her name was Joanne, recommend it another app called gluten-free dude. ( My apologies if I don't remember her name correctly.) The food was delectable. I was so excited that I got several items. I enjoyed the cinnamon roll for 2 days. One fresh on the day I bought it the other warmed up the next day. If you understand gluten-free you know that sometimes the next day doesn't work out. Both cinnamon rolls were absolutely delicious! I also purchased chicken pot pie, a brownie, and a slice of apple pie. All were very tasty. The apple pie was also the next day. She packages them in really good cartons and food boxes. The chicken pie had shredded chicken that was very delicious with potatoes and carrots. Cooked to perfection. My only complaint is I wish I had a mini version instead of a slice. The apple pie was divine! I could not even finish it all in one setting. I would recommend this place to people with allergies and people without. If you do not have a allergy or an autoimmune concern please be mindful that these products may cost a little more than the average bakery. Unfortunately that is a...
Read moreIncredibly rude help tells me, without waiting 2 seconds for a response, that it’s pickup only. To be followed by locking the door in my face and walking away. Wow. I just drove twenty minutes for the sole purpose of buying some bread and I couldn’t even respond, without a door being locked in my face. Yes, the store has the “Open” sign on it. Yes the Google page has “Open” on it. Wow. I love to support small business and even more, I love to support the GF community but if that means I have to have doors shut in my face, no way. And as I sit here, writing this review in front of the store, yet another person walked up, read the signage on the door, and slowly walked away. What the heck. Taking my business elsewhere.
And as I read further through the reviews, I see verbiage such as, “… happened upon this place…” and, “…drove an hour to this place…” making it seem like they used to have a model where one could walk in and see what’s available at the moment. Like, as you would expect a bakery to do. Nope not today. Just an unlock, “Pickup only,” relocks the door and I watch the help’s back as...
