Yesterday we had a party of 3 for an early dinner. We arrived at about 3pm. First of all I need to shout out our server Laura who was fantastic. You can tell from the service that she absolutely loves her job and we appreciated all that she did for us.
We immediately realized after sitting down for a little while that there were flies in the area. We mentioned it to her and she stated they had been having these issues for a while but trying something new to combat the problem. She turned up the fan to see if that would help the problem.
The fan helped for a while and we were okay until our food came and then we were constantly swatting away flies so they would not get on our food. It was ridiculous so we just covered up our food and did the best we could to enjoy the food but it was really hard. We ended up just boxing up our food and finishing our drinks and talking.
Laura asked if there was anything else that we could do and we asked to speak to the manager. That was the worse. She came over and already had an attitude like we were bothering her. We explained to her how we could not enjoy our meal and she basically said to us she knows they have a problem and they were working on it. We asked so what are you doing for your customers who are spending their money in your establishment who have to endure these flies. She said NOTHING. I asked so there is no recourse or compensation and she said NO and walked away. As a manager we all felt that she was rude and nasty and could care less about her customers.
A couple of years ago the fly situation was worse when we went there. We reported it to the manager at that time and he was truly sincere and very apologetic. We actually were compensated for some of the money we spent. We went back a couple of months later to use our coupons and were pleased. Now here we come back and we endure attitude and down right nastiness from this manager yesterday.
We paid our bill and tipped our server for her phenomenal service but decided that we will never patronize this establishment anymore. How do you expect customers to enjoy their meals in between swatting flies and then have to deal with a rude and unapologetic manager....
Read moreI was over in Newport News last weekend helping my mother find a new car and when it was time for lunch I decided to give the Yorktown location of the County Grill a try. I've been to their Hampton location several times over the years and felt pretty good about trying out what I'm told is their original location.
We popped in around 1pm and the place was just starting to clear out a bit from their lunch crowd. There was no wait at all and we were immediately seated by the hostess. Likewise our server was there immediately to drop off menus and silverware and take our drink order. He returned a couple moments later with the drinks and a basket of corn muffins.
I ordered the Pork Shoulder BBQ Sandwich. It comes with 2 sides so I added Fries and Collards. Mom ordered the same except she had the Sweet Potato fries with her meal. After a short wait, our lunches arrived. I had warned Mom that it was going to be a lot of food and while she was expecting a big lunch she wasn't prepared for the sheer size of her sandwich.
The BBQ as always was delicious. I finished my meal, Mom ate about half of hers and boxed the rest. We also tucked the remaining corn muffins in her box. We were in and out of there in about an hour and back out to the car dealerships after that.
All in all, a great visit. Pros: Friendly, Clean, Fast Service, Great Food. Cons: None. If you're yearning for some BBQ, check them out if you're in...
Read moreWe have been going to CG for over 20 years. I can say with certainty that I will NEVER go there again. The service and arrogance of our female server was terrible. The issue started when we received our bill and noticed that the price was incorrect. We pointed out how, written on the "specials" board was a different price than we were charged. At that point the waitress replies with, "that's not the price in our system". She walks away, grabs a chair to stand on and erases the price advertised on the board and rewrites the higher price. It was almost comical to watch this unfold as the waitress raises the price after we ordered and consumed our meal. The business ethics and optics of this move is very poor... After raising the price on the board she quickly returns the with the credit card device and asks are we ready to pay. Not once did she apologize or make any offer or effort to make matters right. I explained to her that we ordered off the specials menu because of the, written in chalk, advertised price and that I didn't appreciate the price going up now that it was time to pay. She quickly developed an attitude and said, "I don't think there is anyone here who can change the price" and quickly walks off. Ten minutes later...... she comes back with the reduction (advertised price) and plenty of attitude. The waitress earned her $0.00 tip that day and CG...
