Same great food, service, and atmosphere as my last visit, about a year ago at this location. We arrived mid afternoon on a Sunday and were immediately seated with quick service. My dining partner and I both ordered the sampler meal, after noting it was more economical than the regular meal price, but with the same food choices and portion size. I enjoyed the Meat Loaf and Chicken n Dumplings, with Mac and Cheese, and Hash Brown Casserole. Everything was hot, tasty, and delicious, except the Mac and Cheese was a little runny and lacked a real cheese flavor. Hot Rolls and Cornbread were tasty, with real butter! The service and attention was excellent! As usual, I enjoyed browsing the gift shop for wonderous holiday gift options. Great food and service, with enough leftover goody bag food for another meal! Sorry, we were so hungry, no photos of the food today!
11/28/2024 Thanksgiving Day Going on Thanksgiving, we knew it would be crowded, but it was a totally huge crowd. Waited 1 hour & 40 minutes for a table, but after ordering, the food came very quickly, and wow, it was delicious! Turkey was tender and juicy with a flavorful gravy, tasty dressing, green beans needed a dash of salt, sweet potato casserole was sweet with cinnamon and spices, and cranberry sauce provided the balance to offset the sweet. Biscuits were hot and flaky made ever better with real butter. The peach tea was very sweet, but so delicious. Had to bring pumpkin pie home for later. Waiting became challenging due to the amount of people crammed into the country store. The outside rocker area was full and cold with light rain, but the turnover was fast. I don't know if there is any time of day on Thanksgiving that would be the optimum time to arrive, as the crowd never decreased during our time there from 11:30am-3pm. I certainly was impressed with all the staff handling registering guests, seating, taking orders, cooking, serving, bussing, taking in payment and so much more! No one seemed stressed and all were friendly and efficient. Great job all Cracker...
Read moreI've enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrell just about every opportunity over the last 30+ years. My home Cracker Barrell in located in Mechanicsville, Virginia. My wife and I ran Christian Tours of Virginia for many years and always dined at Cracker Barrell's from 55 passenger buses throughout the country. During that time we rarely had and a negative experience with your excellent food choices, quality, or service . However, I stopped at your Cracker in Troutville, Virginia 2:30 on Saturday, December 9 and experienced a poor customer service experience. I was seated in the middle of the dining area and no one communicated with me for about 15 minutes until I checked first with the host and then the Manager. Both seemed unconcerned and I still waited for another five minutes for service. Someone finally took my order and I ordered a vegetable plate which I thought would be pretty easy to serve. Several people that were seated well after me ahd been waited on prior to me and a few had already received their meals. The assigned waitress seemed preoccupied and seemed to ignore me when I wanted to inquire about how long it may be before receiving my meal. Some time later I finally received my meal with no bread...which came later. My waitress never returned to my table to check to see if everything was OK until she left to ticket. My wife, myself, and my family all love Cracker Barrell and sometimes have family group meals at the Mechanicsville, Virginia location. My concern is that if this recent event had been my first experience with Cracker Barrell, it may have been my last. Thank you all of the excellent visits over the...
Read moreUpdate on 2/16/2025 from previous review five years ago. Either management, quality or both have changed hands the last five years. The last two years have been solidly disappointing whichever way we dine. We have had to send back almost all take home meals because of lack of portioning, several plates have been returned back to us with a stir or quick dab of whatever side was missing, and take out orders are always wrong. Between background noise and language barriers with call-ins more times than not those that answer the phone are hard to understand or cant understand you. Food quality has went down. Small example, forget a baked macaroni and cheese, it is soupy Stoufers comparable slop. Customer service in store has went down. Waitresses do not have a personality and do the bare minimum. Decorations have been taken down and are lacking in quantity compared to previous years making for a noisier dining room even when sparsely occupied and table lamps are never lit in the evenings. This establishment has went downhill vastly the last ten years and makes me wish I was a teenager again.
merican food in a cozy setting with ample vintage decorations, serving breakfast, lunch and supper. Can get very crowded on weekends especially after church services on Sunday. Food is good, service is usually good and there's plenty of things to distract you and catch your eye in the shop if you are waiting on a table. There is seating out front in rocking chairs, that are also available for purchase. Can accomodate large groups and also has seating areas for two in the dining room, complete with...
