Hands down the BEST RESTAURANT that I have visited so far here in ROANOKE! 😱 OMG 😱 1). WALKING IN - We were greeted by the most beautiful soul! The owners have been married for 30 years and told my husband and I the most beautiful testimony of their love, sacrifice, and business journey! They made us feel AT HOME here... 2) THE FOOD - HOLY MOLY! It was soooooo good! Ummmmm... They can TAKE my money ANYDAY! I ordered the chicken and shrimp plantains, beans and rice and let me tell you... I am from the islands and haven't had shrimp cooked soooooooo perfectly since! If you know seafood the way I do, you know that this dry and unmarinated shrimp they serve everywhere else is annoying! This place does it perfectly!!! Everything tastes like someone's ABUELA is in the back just sprinkling LOVE into every bite! 3) The Atmosphere - Sit where ever you want. The place is IMMACULATELY CLEAN! With REAL ivy plants on the walls, it was like I was sitting at someone's house on a Sunday after church. I mean, even the CUSTOMERS were just SO happy to be there! It was like everyone there KNEW what was about to come out that kitchen was going to be amazing... It's crazy how good food and good atmosphere turns complete strangers into friends... We chatted it up with at least three other customers who were all positively RAVING about the place. 4) Price - If I can be honest, we ordered two plates and two sweet teas and a cake and it came out to about $40 and I would GLADLY PAY it again!!! I left the place feeling like I just took a double-shot of HAPPY and chased it with a big glass of JOY... If you're looking for a place to visit, you can order ANYTHING here and you won't be disappointed... Come as you are and leave on cloud NINE! THANK YOU CUBAN ISLAND RESTAURANT for the lovely experience! My husband and I are now REGULARS. ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Visited Salem, VA and could not find a good place to eat there so looked at reviews of restaurants in Roanoke and found this place. I love Hispanic food and this place did not disappoint! I’m from the Atlanta area and have tried many Cuban restaurants and have never had food that compared to The Cuban Island in Roanoke. Also, the service was great, the portion sizes were decent, and the prices were reasonable. Only negative I could say is that their yuca is boiled and not fried so it wasn’t the best. Also, they only have the sweet plantains and I like the fried green plantains so I was a little disappointed. Overall though the food was great and I would definitely recommend this place.

I haven't been here in a long time but I always had a good experience, however, I ate here Friday and it was so disappointing… the Horchara tasted a lot like clove and was super sweet when I told the waiter he said ā€œit is because it has those ingredientsā€ I'm latina and know the ingredients, it was just not good… then my food came, I was expecting a good chicken stew with potatoes and sweet plantains but it was just a chicken that tasted very off with like a tomatoes sauce, very bland, I could not even eat it but still paid for it. Maybe they changed chefs or it was that night but I know what latino food is supposed to taste and this was nothing like that.

The Cuban Island Restaurant in Roanoke is our favorite restaurant. It is so good we travel about an hour to get there. We went with some friends of ours, and we had an excellent dining experience. The food was exquisite!!!! The different flavors just burst in our mouths! (mouth-watering good). Each of our meals was cooked to perfection. Our friends had dessert, and they raved about it. One had a chocolate dulce de leche, and the other had a pineapple-type cake. The wife said it was probably the best cake she has ever eaten so . . . so moist and flavorful. The restaurant was very, very clean as always, and the ambience was wonderful. Anyone looking to eat some delicious Cuban food has to come to the Cuban Island Restaurant in Roanoke. The plantains are some of the best I have ever eaten. My husband agreed with this. There is such a variety of different meals available and all very appetizing! We applaud the owners for having given us such an excellent dining experience. We left full and ever so satisfied. Our friends ordered two lattes with their dessert, and both of them were even raving about how great the coffee was. I wish I had ordered a latte myself but I will next time we go there to eat. Once again, kudos to the owners who are also the cooks. They put in some very hard work making sure everyone is well-pleased with their succulent dishes and food. We'll be by...

I wonder if they changed ownership or management. I didn’t see any of the regular staff. Even the vibe is different but not in a bad way. It's still well managed and there was a steady group of people coming in and out. Food came out relatively quickly and portion about the same as before. I can tell a difference in the food. Although delicious, I'm from Miami and know Cuban food. This was a very good attempt at Cuban cuisine but I highly doubt it's the real thing. The rice was slightly undercooked but everything else was good. Would I be back? Sure. I do want to note that the menu said the price was 12.75 and I was charged 12.99 for the same plate. I double checked the menu and online menu to be sure and confirmed it when comparing to the actual receipt I got. I didn't say anything because it's not a big deal. Just wanted to point it out in case you notice your cost is slightly different as well. In that case they should inform the customers or make the necessary changes online and...
