El Estribo — Restaurant in Virginia

We brought a group of 18 family members to El Estribo this past Saturday for the first time, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. I called ahead to make a reservation, and they were kind enough to fit us in that same day. When we arrived, we only waited about 15 minutes before being seated.

The service was great, the restaurant was very clean, and the food was absolutely amazing — every single person in our family loved their meal. While the food took a little time to come out, it was well worth the wait.

A special shout-out to the staff and chef for accommodating my wife’s dietary needs. She usually can only eat homemade ceviche due to restrictions, but they went above and beyond to prepare a shrimp-only ceviche with no milk — and she loved it!

This place LOVES to turn down customers. They have terrible hours throughout the week and close early on weekends, their prices are far from competitive and they can't seem to handle more than 6 parties at one time (expect long wait times and forgettable service). Sure, they have a few good offerings like the Lomo Saltado or Cau Cau but, if you want to enjoy these, you'll have to catch them off guard when they're not in anti-customer mode. I just had the worst experience with the owners in presence. Took my mother to have a nice lunch, who got seated and got the menu from the server and left us there for over 20 mins with no explanation. Our server was focused on serving the owner and didn’t even offer us water. They kept looking at us but never came back to our table.
