Ok, the atmosphere is kinda relaxing. The food is good. But if I am eating I don't need 3 people constantly asking if everything is okay. Or stand there and chat for 5-10 min. Or to say that because we're quiet they feel something is wrong. Or to fawn over the fact that I preferred fresh mushrooms to canned. That was annoying and weird. Been there several times and that was the first time that happened. It was the first time visit for my cousin and she asked me why they don't just go away and let us eat in peace. Especially when it seemed like one waitress was pacing around constantly wanting to take plates as soon as we were done. Like they were trying to get us to leave as soon as possible. Even though the people seated near by came in later and were told to take their time. This was close to 8:45 and the close at 9pm.
Specifically stated that I wanted my entire salad brought out with the garlic knots. Waitress said well I can bring you part of your salad so that you can you can take home the rest because it's quite large. This is after I let her know this is not the first time I've had the salad and was aware of how large it was. For some reason I had two different people explain to me that the garlic knots and the bread that they serve were the same pizza dough. One, I did not ask and two I already knew that.
Maybe it was an off night. Still enjoyed the food. Hopefully I will not have the same experience if I come again. I came there specifically for the salmon salad and the garlic knots but I didn't really have a chance to enjoy it at all. And this is not the first time I have requested fresh mushrooms for my salad. I know it is a family owned restaurant but the service I got tonight was not the best. I think the next time I will come with the same people I usually come with. If there are more people at the table maybe they won't be...
Read moreThis very well may be the best pizza place and also one of the best Italian restaurants in the Richmond area! I had driven by it several times in the past as it is right next to a Food Lion and pretty much shares a wall with it. Now that I have finally been here several times I can happily speak to the consistency of both the food and the service at Giovanni's which are both stellar! The Giovanni special is an epic pizza that is as much an event as it is a Nirvana of deliciousness for your palate! As great as this place is food-wise and service wise, what also has surprised me is how reasonably priced this place is. Dollar-for-dollar this is one of the best deals anywhere in the Richmond area and you get a considerable amount of food for your money especially when when you order one of their large pizzas. The service is also spectacular, and it is pretty obvious that everyone here takes a lot of pride in what they serve. Below is a pic of the Giovanni special. When they say extra cheese, they mean extra cheese! Even though I have to drive 20 to 30 minutes to get to this place, every one of my visits has been worth it so I will continue to come back and continue to spread the word about this locally owned and epically awesome Italian restaurant. I am done just driving by this place! I now make it a point to stop in here when I am out this way in the Hanover area and even venture out this way from Richmond City just to enjoy knowing I'm getting amazingly high quality food at very reasonable prices. According to Warren Buffett, "Price is what you pay, value is what you get." And apparently Giovanni's understands this concept about as well as any place I have ever visited! Cheers to Giovanni's and Cheers to all its awesome patrons and employees. You all have earned this...
Read moreMeh. My husband and I ordered an XL Giovanni’s special. When my husband went to pickup our order, they had made a large instead. They made us a couple of extra slices to make up the difference, and he said they were very nice. The large size was already huge.
My husband’s pet peeve when it comes to pizza is picking up a slice and half the toppings fall off. That’s what happened with this pizza. I have no problem eating the first few bites with a fork. The crust and sauce had a great homemade flavor, but most of the toppings were just gross. I usually love both veggies and meats, but I picked off all of my veggie toppings because they tasted sour. The flier I had for Giovanni’s listed “fresh mushrooms” but the mushrooms on our pizza were definitely canned. Bleh! After picking off all of the mushrooms, I still tasted something sour and discovered the green peppers had the same sour taste as the mushrooms. If we go back, it’ll be to get a...
