We had a mixed experience at Grapevine.
We are new to the area and have been very excited to try it out.
The food was AMAZING.
However, we waited for our food for about 1 hour 40 minutes.
We (my parents, husband, two of our kids, my sister and brother-in-law, and I) were seated just before 8 PM, and our food arrived at 9:35. When I went to tell someone around 9:20 that we were still waiting, I found a man who I think was the manager and he looked shocked and said he would take care of it. We did get our food shortly after, and it was great. We were then offered a dessert platter for the trouble. I told our waitress we'd rather have an entree comped than a dessert platter - we were all so tired by that point, and my 6-year-old just couldn't hang and had been trying to fall asleep on the booth seat but said it wasn't comfortable enough. So my mom finally said she'd just take her home. This meant my mom missed dinner with the rest of us, and my 6-year-old, who was so excited for a rare trip to a restaurant in these COVID times, also missed dinner with us.
The waitress explained at one point that the holdup was that we didn't have a reservation. This didn't make sense to us - the people at the table next to us were seated just before us and got their food around 45 minutes before we did. Why would having a reservation or not change the way we were served? I also had tried to make a reservation by calling 3 times, but I couldn't reach anyone live.
The manager (I presume) came by and explained that one of the dishes had to be redone, and that someone should have communicated that, and he was sorry he didn't. I agree that someone should have communicated that to us, and also, it didn't make sense to us that we waited that long, no matter what happened with one of the dishes. Although our food was incredible, the baked pastas seemed like they'd been sitting a bit before being brought to us, which really didn't work.
Our experience was enough to make me think twice about coming back. I'm excited about the food, the atmosphere, and the caring staff - we really did get the sense that they cared. But to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes before being served dinner, with two kids in tow, just didn't work for us. It's left me confused about if I want to come back. In addition, Grapevine's response - to offer a dessert platter - didn't really address the impact of the long wait - my mom and daughter missing dinner with us, and paying our babysitter who was home with our infant for a lot more time than we had expected. They did comp the equivalent of one entree, and honestly, it would make sense to me for them to comp much more than that, or to offer us a gift certificate to come back, given what happened. We are absolutely people who would frequent this place if we were sure this wouldn't happen again.
I'd love for someone at Grapevine to reach out to me about...
Read moreIf you follow our reviews, you will know that we will always search out great places via Google...and this time our community delivered the Greek and Italian goods!
On an unusually busy Tuesday night, we were met with open arms and bright smile...Mitchell welcomed us and sat us promptly. As I said, it was unusually busy, however Katelyn did her very best to ensure that we didn't feel the busy...even if the service was understandbly a bit slow...it just felt more like relaxed.
We ordered some Bang Bang Shrimp, a Khristos Sampler with House salad and Kim's mother, Mary...had the "Mother Mary". I know Bang Bang Shrimp aren't very Greek...but they were non the less...delicious. Kim enjoyed all parts of her sampler and Mary barely made a dent in here "Mother Mary"...but was stuffed and very satisfied. About the only miss for us was the flaming cheese. It was more alcohol forward than we are used to and served not in a heated cast iron skillet but rather a china dish. I can't fault the Grapevine for this...you can't please every palate. I think without the heat of the cast iron...the alcohol was more present than we are used to. When Katelyn asked why we didn't seem to eat it, we gave that answer. It just wasn't our taste. We told her don't worry about...they all can't be home runs and this meal was full of home runs already. We told her directly to not take any action.
Well that wouldn't stand for Katelyn or Mitchell. Mitchell offered to replace the dish. We again repeated ourselves and let him know that we were more than okay.
We then ordered the Baklava Cheese Cake. If you like both...you do not want to miss out on this mash up. The desert tray looked far too delicious not to leave you all a photo.
After a great meal we requested the check and found that Mitchell had gone ahead and removed the flaming cheese. He also ensured that we didn't leave without another (unnecesary) apology.
It was only on the way out that we mentioned to Mitchell that we were avid reviewers...so the level of service was just their normal, genuine great service. We had a long talk with both Mitchell and his father Mike (co-owners). We thanked them both again for a great meal and experience.
If you're in the Richmond VA area...and you love Greek or Italian food...you owe yourself a trip to Grapevine. The awesome decor is exactly what I would expect at a higher scale Mediteranian place. Not snooty...just not your average...
Read moreWe reserved table for lunch and our table was ready when we arrived.. when I booked I asked for a booth but they offered a small table in the middle of the room which we exchanged it to another corner table later.. it was our first time and based on the reviews we expected to have good food and a great service but Grapevine failed in both..
We ordered calamari, Spanakopita and boom boom shrimp for starter.. boom boom shrimp is a poor knock of version of bonefish grill bang bang shrimp.. we didn’t like the taste of the sauce.. calamari was good but the quantity was less compared to other places that serves the same appetizer.. Spnakopita was good..
For main course we ordered grilled chicken pizza and Poseidon Alfredo.. chicken pizza was excellent and they’ve given good amount of chicken.. on the other hand pasta was bland.. scallops were rubbery.. we asked for salt and pepper to season the pasta.. they charged $25 for that plate .. you better make it delicious if u decided to charge such a high price for ur pasta.. very very disappointed with this pasta dish..
We ordered Thiramisu and Gluten free chocolate cake.. Thiramisu was really good, must try item if u visit.. but the chocolate cake was hard to cut and it’s just chocolate nothing else..
We didn’t get the great service ppl mentioned in their reviews.. it was mediocre at best.. I had to get up from my seat and call the waitress or get someone to come over to our table to ask for any additional items and deserts.. except us there was just one more group having lunch.. so I can’t imagine their service when they have a huge crowd over.. also ppl mentioned about cleanliness of their restaurant.. we found bread pieces on the floor under the table when we adjusted the table.. big big let down..
On Valentine’s Day we went with high hopes to get the best service and great food but Grapevine turned out to be the biggest disappointment for us..
2 stars are only for the pizza and Thiramisu..
Ppl beware that u may not get the same experience as the 5 star reviews says .. they are not consistent..
I really wish the owner read this and fix it so others won’t get the worst...
