Friend and I from out of town were treated pretty exceptionally badly here by the white girl with short brown hair, but the food is excellent and every other server was kind. Not really sure why, but the short haired waitress fully stopped taking care of our table and did not return to take care of us after delivering drinks. We waited over an hour to receive our appetizers, even while she continued to deliver to nearly every other table with larger parties and/or who arrived later. These other tables received both their appetizers and entrees before us. I knew it was bad when I heard a kid from the table behind us ask their parents why they got food before us even though we were there before them.
Every other waitress on staff ended up having to deliver us our food and taking care of the remainder of our meal. Noticing how we were abandoned by our original waitress was a bit confusing and made us feel pretty bad, since we noticed she clearly was available to help other tables and spent plenty of time praying and messing around with the iPad at the cash register (both of which are fine, but again, odd considering that she never even came back to our table).
Thankfully, the other servers were kind and I was grateful they took the time to help us outside of their own assigned tables. Not sure if the other waitress was being discriminatory or not, but it certainly felt targeted. Couldn't tell ya why, but I guess people down here don't do the "southern hospitality" thing anymore! The food was great and all the other servers lovely, but to be frank, the overall experience felt so shitty that I felt the need to post a review.
Thanks to that waitress for ruining what would have otherwise been a wonderful out of town experience! The way she made me feel far outweighed the quality of food and her behavior put more work onto the other servers. as a result, Ike's can only get 1-star from me, despite its qualities. I'm sure my experience was not average, but it felt exactly like the times I've been discriminated for my race. Shouldn't be the case here, since I'm Korean/Japanese, I doubt this girl was being racist in a Japanese restaurant, but man, it was bizarre. I've never been treated like this at any...
Read moreWOW WOW WOW. If you are looking for hand crafted dishes. Food made with passion and an appreciation for quality, you have come to the right spot for Ike's Kitchen. Ike's Ramen House and Japanese Cuisine is the place to go!
This small shop is just what you would expect to find for a Ramen house in Japan. Its ordering process and simple service with huge flavor, extreme quality and top notch staff makes this place one of the MUST VISIT spots in Roanoke. Service is simple but executed exactly as planned. There isnt a huge amount of seating, but the food comes out super fast and they turn tables quickly. You can grab a table or sit at the bar. The bathrooms are impeccably clean along with tables and overall decor. Its simple, but just what you would expect from a Ramen house.
The food speaks for itself. Order at the counter and pay then sit and try and wait patiently for the flavor ride of your life. You can tell by the quality of product that you enjoy that Ike and Family put some serious care into the dishes they sit before you. Everything from the menu items to the special board, the food is going to be good and authentic, no matter what you pick.
This place is as close as you get to a Ramen House in Virginia. Each dish has hand picked quality items every time. The owner only serves the best quality product and you experience it as soon as you bite into whatever dish you choose.
Ikes serves a variety of Ramen dishes as well as dumplings, hibachi, yaki, and some really authentic Japanese deserts. If you are looking for a place to be wined and dined, you should go back to Roanoke, but if you are visiting Ike's you are getting a vacation away. This place is one of my top 10 in Roanoke, hands down!
Along with beautifully crafted dishes, Ike's also serves alcohol and the standard American beverages. Come for lunch or dinner and the dishes are the same quality every single time. The owner is always on location and you can tell by the consistency in every meal. Come by and show your love soon! Your mouth and tummy will most definitely...
Read moreWhen the most recent location opened I was beyond excited to get another bowl of ramen. To start at the beginning, there will typically be a wee wait around typical dinner service hours, but it will be worth the wait. The wait staff is friendly and Ike takes excellent care of his staff even going so far as to close the restaurant if it is unsafe for them to travel into work. One of the waitresses if from the original location, so Ike must be doing something right. Food is brought out in a reasonable amount of time and is hot. Staff checks in and keeps your drink topped up and otherwise takes care of you. The dining area is small and open, so noise can be higher than most folks are used to, but it's not "loud" by any means. The décor is plain and the space is mute, however most folks are not there to look at the art. I personally always get ramen when I come to Ike's as, at the time of writing, there are limited places to get good ramen in Roanoke. Prices are reasonable at this time and a bowl will more than likely fill anyone up, and it's inexpensive to add an egg or other proteins to give it that extra punch should you need it. If I was to level 1 critique it would be hours of operation and I want to be crystal clear on this. The mid day break is smart move and one I 100% stand behind it. I personally wish they stayed opened longer than 2000 ET (8:00 PM). I'm a late eater and sometimes get off work late, so I can't make it in time to eat.
To summarize, recognizable staff in this economy, solid bowl of ramen, good value for money, and a return of a personal favorite. I hope to eat many bowls of ramen here for...
