This is a nice little mom and pop kind of place. Going in gives ya almost a 1950ish type feel. They have a number of small tables littered about and a couple of picnic table outside. At first it was a lite difficult to catch their menu/options. They have it up on a rolling screen that switches screens pretty quick. Since it wasn't very busy the young lady took a few minutes to explain what they had. I got a chili dog combo my daughter who is pretty plain Jane just got a couple of plain hot dogs and french fries. Food came up pretty quick, you need to walk up to the counter to grab your food. My daughter and I ended up sitting outside at the picnic table. Everything was good, just nothing really stood out. Even my daughter who just got two plain hot dogs said to me that she thought they were okay. I didn't think there was a lot of taste to the chili. The french fries even though they were hot seem to be a little undercooked, since they still were a little cold in the inside. They look to be just like regular crinkle fries that you pick up at the store. We ended up adding a little bit of Old Bay to our french fries to try this season them up a little bit. They did have a couple of other menu items and they had some homemade desserts on the counter. They had a sign saying they had milkshakes as well. If I wanted a quick hot dog fix I definitely would come back here again especially knowing what I'm going to get. If I was looking to have something a little bit better I probably would go down to City Dogs or Mom & Pops...
Read moreI'm a regular @ Sam's hotdog stand in Crozet VA & Cville VA, so when I found this spot on the map I got excited. That feeling didn't last long though after receiving my order. First off let me say the food was fresh but the way they packed my to go order, it was a mess by the time I got it to the car. About the food itself I ordered 2 hotdogs 1 with chilli and cheese and the 2nd with mustard and onions. The "all beef" hotdog is small which gets lost in the bun. The original Sam's I go to has the small dogs but they also offer a bigger all beef Nathan's 1/4lb dog which fills the bun nicely and IMO is the best dog on the market. The fries that come with the order are lightly salted crinkle fries which were ok but I'd rather have the seasoned shoe string fries from the original Sam's. When I order this exact same order from the original Sam's it comes in a white flip top foam box that has 2 dogs and the rest of the room in the box is filled with seasoned shoe string fries. My order from this Sam's came in a small brown paper lunch bag. The other Sam's offers tasty all beef burgers to die for and pipping hot subs as well. Maybe this store is just a scaled down version of the others or maybe they're not connected at all? If I'm in the area I may stop in again but honestly you can get the exact same type of hotdogs at a place that calls them Coneys. At least Sonic offers footlongs and other options besides...
Read moreMy family and I love Sam's! My husband is a hot dog connoisseur, and this is his favorite place around. He and I love the spicy chili for just a little oomph, and Mom is happy with the regular chili. The slaw is mayo-based and traditional It is fine-chopped, which we all prefer. The buns are always fresh (because they are always busy!). The wieners are tender, non-snapping, which is important to my husband. Fries are always perfectly done, crinkle cut. Very good sweet tea, and there's an assortment of sauces near the fountain dunks. There are also canned beverages. There is some outside seating, which we enjoy during nice weather, as well as inside seating and clear facilities. The restaurant is very clean, which is astounding considering how much traffic they get and messy food too, haha. The staff are wonderful. They know my husband and his brother by name. If ever anything is wrong (very, very rare!), they are super quick to fix it and always very nice and apologetic. They are super fast for dine-in and carry out, and they are cheap, cheap, cheap, especially considering the quality and the home cooked food. We will be coming here as long as they are open!
Note their hours of operation before heading over. They may fluctuate some seasonally, or maybe that was only during the pandemic. Nonetheless, it is a good idea to...
