Not bad. Not great. So, after over a decade living in Newport News, I finally decided to stop into the Subway Station. I'd heard really great things about their subs and was excited to try them out. I ordered the Club Car Sub. Turkey, Ham, Bacon and Provolone with lettuce, tomato, onions and their special sauce, which to me, tastes a lot like Caesar salad dressing. They toast all their subs in an oven, which I really liked. The price was right, too. A large sub with chips and a 32oz drink (Free refills) was just north of $10. Pretty much what I would expect. There's not a lot of room to eat in there and I showed up right around 1pm, so it was pretty busy. I got my order to go. I live about 10 minutes away, but when I got home, the sub was still really hot. The bread was almost perfectly toasted. I'd say it was juuuuuust slightly over where I normally like it. The first bite was near perfection. The crunch was satisfying and I could taste almost every component, but the bacon and the special sauce came through the strongest. The bacon was perfectly crispy. The lettuce, onions and tomatoes were completely lost. It looked as though they put the lettuce, tomatoes and onions on before the sandwich was toasted, so the tomatoes turned to mush and the lettuce wilted in the heat and lost all it's texture. The special sauce they put on is very tasty, but it's runny and if there's one thing I absolutely hate, it's a messy sandwich. With every bite, more of the sauce ran right out the back and sometimes, over the top. Very unpleasant. They also claim to have the "Best ice in town", but their ice just gets stuck in your straw when you try to drink. Overall, the sandwich tasted fine, but there were technical errors when putting it together. I'll probably stop back in and give them another try, however I'll make sure I tell them exactly how I want the...
Read moreTheir subs are delicious and made fresh for each individual order. Prompt service for both dine-in and pickup orders. Currently, there are no online ordering options or delivery options, but you can place an order by phone in advance for either pickup or dining in. Payment is made when you receive your order at the restaurant. The staff is always friendly, courteous, and ensures that you receive exactly what you ordered every single time. The dining atmosphere is seat yourself seating and consists of one large room with multiple sizes of wooden tables, chairs, and a few booths. Decor is comprised of sports memorabilia featuring the local university, Christopher Newport University (CNU), and a few local high schools. There are several TVs showing news and sports mounted around the dining room. It's definitely a college student atmosphere but still suitable for family dining. Almost all subs are seasoned with their "secret sauce," which helps to create a surprising and delightful "taste explosion that you don't want to forgo. They also sell small cups of extra "secret sauce" for those who like their subs with a little more sauce. Highly recommend this local, 46-year-old...
Read moreI had the Atlantic City Connection, 1/2; my friend had their usual too a cheese steak. I would give it 5 stars for the Atlantic City Connection, which is why we came -- I like it a lot and get it with everything and their sauce, and because the price is fair and service is always fast. Seating is orderly and kept clean. The men's room is clean. Parking is easy in their own lot. But the Cheese Steak is as always lacking. I won't order it anymore but my friend likes them from other places and doesn't eat what else is on the menu. The problem is the meat for the Cheese Steak sandwich is like a cheep pressed meat. My friend agreed to come with me because I felt like having their Atlantic City Connection: the only reason we come. I wouldn't suggest their Cheese Steak until they get a higher quality of meat for it (or take it off the menu because it lowers the quality of the whole menu). The staff is aways attentive, friendly, helpful and fast. While we ate serval staff were busy cleaning tables and restocking things, in short keeping the whole place in top notch shape. But the...
