I've been going to The Deli for years now, started going to the one in Herndon on Elden Street and it was constantly busy for lunch. I moved out of Herndon and really missed having a good nearby deli/sandwich place when I happened to stumble upon their Fairfax location by chance! Seeing that this location was close by, I feel like this has become an easy go-to for those weekend urges of treating myself to a nice sandwich.
Food: The Deli offers several variations of Italian sandwiches wtih different cured meats and cheeses. I normally get the works with lettuce, tomato, chili peppers, and oil for all the sandwiches I order (It just feels and tastes right). The sandwiches are decently proportioned, they offer an 8 inch and a 12 inch, for most of them, and trust me when I say that a 12 inch sandwich is good enough for a meal and a half. They also offer hot sandwiches and deli meats by the pound but I have yet to partake in those. If you're a pickle lover, you'll be happy to know that their cold Italian sandwiches tend to come with a pickle to give an acidic contrast! I highly recommend stopping by and getting a sandwich if you're in the area! From discussions with the manager, they appear to be a local family-owned business with a couple of locations but I've only been in the Fairfax and Herndon ones.
I can't give a full review on Service and Atmosphere as I normally just do carry-out for sandwiches but the owner is very friendly and it appears that they have been updating the restaurant. Aside from being a restaurant, The Deli also offers a selection of jarred goods, wine/beverages, and various snacks for sale.
TLDR: Great Italian sandwiches offered by a family-owned business that I've enjoyed for...
Read moreI was in the mood for an Italian sub and I happened to see that The Deli is nearby. I didn’t know that it was located at it’s current location as my husband frequented this establishment over the years when it was at its prior location. This was my first visit and it was great! Covid procedures are in place and when we went in to place our order, we happened to be there at the right time as it was not crowded. I ordered the “Mad Italian” with everything on it & my husband ordered the meatball sub with only cheese & sauce. While we were waiting on our sandwiches to be made, it was interesting to see some of the Italian products sold with vintage album covers gracing the wall above. We took our food to go and it was a good twelve minute drive back to our home. I was very pleased when I arrived home to see that my sub was intact as it was tightly wrapped in wax paper and butcher paper. Since I had everything on my sub which included mayo & oil & vinegar, their freshly baked Italian roll was thin but able to withstand the generous portion of cold cuts & vegetables. The roll did not fall apart which is a big plus in my book as nothing is worse when you are trying to eat a sub and the bread disintegrates upon the first few bites. At The Deli, Gabriella’s Italian Cookies (from Brooklyn, NY) are also sold. These cookies are always a delicious way to end a meal. There are multiple locations of this establishment in Washington D.C. and in Virginia. What a great local treat, we will...
Read more😲 I've been coming to the Deli for over 30 years & I'm sad to say it's gone downhill under different ownership. I bought Subs there yesterday only to drive over 25 miles home to open them up & find that there were 4 shreds of lettuce on an entire sub & I could not find the onion that I ordered on it anywhere! If I order extra lettuce, onion & tomato maybe I might get eight pieces of each. I call at the METAL WALL Of PRIVACY that they have installed so that you cannot see how your SANDWICH IS BEING MADE or NOT MAKE anymore. Totally disappointing to come home & find I only have ham & 2 pieces of very thin provolone cheese on it & NO VEG ON IT AGAIN! Seriously I'm going to open my sandwich that they've just made & [ carefully wrapped and bagged ] right on the counter to see what is on or not on my sandwich before I pay for it. I know everybody is saving money but I what I ordered & I expect to get it & by the way, you used to get a half of a dill pickle on an entire sub & now you get a sliver no bigger than a 7-year-old's finger! What has happened to THE DELI ? IT USED TO BE THE BEST SUB SANDWICH ANYWHERE BUT NOW I'LL GO TO WAWA GAS STATION, At least they PREPARE YOUR SANDWICH WITH THE INGREDIENTS YOU ORDER... WOW ! A GAS STATION SUB OVER THE DELI, WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT 🤥 This problem is easily fixed by ownership but do...
