Fantastic food, ambiance and service at Yayas Cookbook Restaurant! This place brings back a large following of happy customers with a great menu that includes sushi, Thai favorites like curry and a host of other menu options. The restaurant has outdoor patio seating and a nice low light bar and seating area that is comfortable and relaxing. This is a family owned business and "Mama", the owner is very personable and gets to know her regular customers and treats them like family. You have the kids working there and the wait staff and bartenders make some amazing one of a kind drinks. Chloe was our server the night our group was there and she did a fabulous job and worked there over a year before being a server. The food was great and for our regular crew of people this is a place we all visit at least once a week. The food quality is amazing and there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian options available. The avocado sushi with crushed peanuts was fantastic. I have had it before at other places but the crushed peanuts added a great crunch and texture to the roll. The papaya salad was also delicious and had enough spice and bite to it to make it an instant favorite. If you are looking for a great restaurant that is semi casual with great food in the Short Pump - Glenn Allen area put this one on your list....you will not be disappointed!

YaYas, I want to love this place. I’ve been here twice with my fiancé. The first time we were seated by the Manager and no one else was in the restaurant. He was walking around training a new server. We didn’t see him again for 15-20 minutes. We decided to order from the bar. Kabo was bartending and I knew him from other restaurants in town. After talking to the bartender we got our food and drinks quickly. Food was amazing. We tried the chicken satay and dumplings. We also ordered Margarita’s and they were delicious. The second time we sat outside and Francesca was our server. Service with her was terrible. She kept disappearing. There was a couple behind us and she got their drinks and both of their entree’s wrong. Having worked in the restaurant industry I felt I had more patience but she only had a handful of tables and she acted like she didn’t care. She forgot to put in our dessert order and put the wrong drinks in. We waited for 15 minutes before asking where our dessert was and then waited another 15 minutes to receive it. Our entrees were not great. My fiancé ordered the Pork Pad See-Ew and I ordered the Basil Beef. We both have had better Thai food. I like this location and the appetizers but the service is not great. We plan on coming back but will only be sitting at the bar to see Kabo for his amazing drinks. If you come to Yaya’s sit at the bar and talk to Kabo he will be friendly and get you the service you deserve.

The ambiance and atmosphere is perfectly wonderful here. There is a range of seating and each table is slightly different. The staff are very casual and friendly. Wonderful at helping you order. Sadly the food is very hit or miss. The Beef bulgogi was completely unseasoned and flavorless. The dipping sauce for it was barely redeemable and the whole dish was tiny and tasteless. The chicken skewers had a wonderful color but lacked any meaningful flavor. The spider roll and fried roll were both completely bland. They lack any meaningful flavor. The dumplings smelled awful and tasted sour. The wontons were just okay with the sauce. The drunken noodles taste not as bland but just mildly spicy without much depth. The warm apple dessert was nothing special. Their vegetable tempura was just average. Now onto the good. The YaYa's roll is a wonderful smoky and savory roll. It made the experience worth enough to try and go back again. While an incredible experience the first time the Yaya roll the second time wasn't very special. The fried ice cream is a wonderful ball of ice cream with a sweet and warm crust.

I almost hesitate sharing my love for Yaya’s in fear of over saturating this gem of a restaurant & losing the VIP treatment I get as I walk through the front door. The location is completely unassuming in a strip mall next to a movie theater, but please do not be discouraged by this because when you enter, you are surrounded by the cutest decor! There are hanging basket chairs & Thai street carts as tables. The waitstaff is always very welcoming & the bartenders are AMAZING! Order off the cocktail menu - they have mastered the art of not only a delicious, but beautiful cocktail. Also, do yourself a favor & try the vodka wasabi shot (pictured). I don’t typically drink vodka, but this is an experience that cannot be overlooked when going to Yaya’s. My food suggestions are (not pictured unfortunately....I never have a chance to take them as I’m always ready to devour) sundried beef app, duck curry & pad woon sen with shrimp or chicken. Yaya’s is a great spot for families, kids, dates & out of town guests. You literally cannot go wrong with this pick!!

Today, I brought my wife to Yaya's, and here is my experience: We are vegetarians, and they offer some options for non-meat eaters. The quality of the food is good, but I believe the main course (Pad Pak) left something to be desired in comparison with the starter (sweet potato rolls). The starter had the punch, but the main course didn't! The service is good, I just thought they took a long time on the initial service. We had to wait a while for someone to come and show us our seats. The environment is very well decorated, it looks like a beach decoration, and the music is good. Price-wise, it's good at 50 bucks, and it feeds a couple comfortably. What appears to be rich is the drinks bar. They have many varieties. In summary, the place doesn't offer many vegetarian options, and you may have to wait a few minutes for someone to show you your seat. However, the atmosphere is great, and we love the decor. I definitely recommend this place.

I have seen YA-YAs on my recommended list and finally had an opportunity to go. My date wanted to take me there and I'm glad he did. When I arrived, the place was packed! But, instead of being discouraged, I took that to mean the food must be good. We checked in at the front and they called us to be seated after an hour. The table was a cute little 2 seater area, in a very busy room. The table had waters, and cloth napkins set up cute waiting for us. We ordered drinks from a very big bar, I tried one called a letter from my mother, and my date had Miss Stephanie.. both were really good. Our appetizers were veggie rolls, and crispy shrimp tempura. I liked both of those as well. And finally the entrees were orange chicken and sushi. Our server was great, she kept us drinking and brought the food out hot and perfectly cooked to us. I highly recommend this place, it be indulged of the wait t8me.
