I recently visited La Takiza, a Mexican food spot that came highly recommended by some friends. However, my experience left me with mixed feelings and an overall mediocre impression. While the freshly made tacos were undoubtedly the highlight, I found several aspects that fell short of my expectations.
Let's start with the positives. One of the standout elements at La Takiza was the hot sauce. It had a delightful kick and added a much-needed flavor boost to the dishes. The heat level was just right, and I appreciated the authentic taste. Additionally, the service I received was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
However, the disappointment began with the main attraction: the asada meat. Unfortunately, the meat still had noticeable fat in it, which significantly affected the overall enjoyment of the dish. While some people may appreciate the richness and flavor that fat can bring, I personally prefer leaner cuts of meat in my tacos. The presence of fat in the asada detracted from the otherwise delicious flavors and texture.
On the other hand, I must commend the establishment for their dedication to making freshly made tacos. The tortillas were soft, warm, and had a delightful aroma. This added an authentic touch to the dining experience, and it was evident that care was taken in preparing the tacos. It's worth noting that the taco fillings, aside from the asada, were satisfactory and complemented the tortillas well.
Beyond the tacos, the overall menu at La Takiza lacked variety. While I understand that simplicity can be a key aspect of some Mexican cuisine, I found myself wanting more options to explore and experience different flavors. The lack of diversity in the menu limited my ability to truly appreciate the breadth of Mexican cuisine.
In conclusion, La Takiza had its strengths and weaknesses. The hot sauce and exceptional service were definite highlights, while the asada meat with visible fat and the limited menu options left much to be desired. For those seeking freshly made tacos, this place might be worth a visit. However, if you're looking for a more well-rounded Mexican dining experience, there may be better options available...
Read moreLa Takiza had wonderfully flavored tacos when I tried it.
On the occasions that I went, I tried out their chorizo tacos which were topped with fresh cilantro and chopped onions. I also had their guacamole-salsa which added a bit of zest and tang on top of the richness of the meat. The meat hit different notes on my palette and was very intense.
I’ve also tried out their chicken and cheese corn quesadilla which is unique as quesadillas are known for their flour tortillas. It was pull-apart goodness with enough cheese to keep you satisfied.
Other items I’ve tried include their buche mulita along with pork tacos. Personally, I was not afraid to try out some odd cuts a.k.a. from the stomach.
The tortillas were also nice and soft while still being hot and folded well over the toppings.
If you go inside, you can see them making the tacos in front of you with a glass barrier between you and the cooks.
As usual with Mexican restaurants that use fresh onions, be sure to pack some mints or heck even some carrots and apples as your breath is going to be...
Read moreSo I was looking for a taco place that makes handmade tortillas fresh, which they do. But they were a little hard still. The lady at the counter looked like she did not like her job. Nobody greeted us when we came in and I looked kind of like we were bothering them with our order. Which was pretty simple we just got tacos. Also, nothing comes on your taco it's just the meat and tortilla. They have a condiment bar but the guacamole is watered down. The meat was kind of seasoned okay. I was a little disappointed. People say that this place has the best tacos in North county San Diego, I disagree. The best tacos in North county are at TJ Tacos in Escondido. I will drive 20 minutes just to eat tacos there, like I said I was looking for a similar place in Vista where I live but I still haven't found anything close to TJ Tacos.
Review update: I woke up this morning a (the day after eating here) and I have the runs. It was definitely the tacos I ate at this place. DO NOT...
