Excellent spicy noodle and Thai Tea. I've been to way too many Thai Restaurants and making my own Thai food as of late and this place is at the top of the list if not the top for food taste. After 3 Thai restaurants 3 days straight this is saying something much less writing a review...
I didn't order a spice level but they gave me the spice "rack" to do it myself which I have to say is the way to go as you can adjust as you go. Perhaps more Thai restaurants will go this route and allow you to make it as spicy as you like (though I'd suggest a smaller spoon as the scoop for the Thai spice is large for how spicy Thai spice is...) Many reviews have stated they don't know the spiciness scale and their orders of food were not very palatable so perhaps what they did in my case is an option for you. I'm thinking I prefer it now for sure. Originally I thought it wouldn't blend in well (it's basically powder and the seeds) but it worked so well I wrote this lengthy review and kept it 5 stars despite 2 gaffes (see below.)
The ambiance is nice (the one in Vista off Arcadia) with decent decor and calm music. Server and owner are very nice and friendly but they didn't acknowledge me when I came in nor another couple who got up and left and seem to be understaffed especially on a Friday. I feel they need to be aware to greet and seat their restaurant customers...(very busy take out business...) I was the only one here on a Friday at 6 but now the restaurant is 2/3 full and I occassionally see someone come out of the back to attend to the tables though my service, personally, has been excellent.
The thai tea is large and is definitely on the sweet side served in a to go container. Good idea for some but be aware if you bring a date or it is a special occasion if it is not your cup of tea...
Out of ice cream! On a Friday night! Both kinds! Uh oh...I'm so full now and satisfied I could care less...but someone else might...and the candy at the end to cleanse the...
Read moreAwesome Thai Restaurant. The staff are nice and welcoming, the restaurant is clean, the food is great. We've been dining and ordering out from this restaurant since they opened. A lot of the smaller restaurants start off clean, great food, and friendly staff then goes downhill. Not this one. We're working our way through all the menu items but I always order the Tom Kha, always seasoned well and they will tailor the spice level to your party's taste. It's Thai food so if your taste runs in the bland arena this will not be the place for you. I have yet to order anything I don't like but my favorites are the Tom Kha (all dishes have choice of protein from Tofu to Shrimp), crunchy calamari, bacon scallop, som-tom (papaya salad), kee moa (spicy noodle), duck curry, phad phrik-king, tiger cry steak and of course Thai Tea and sticky rice mango for dessert. My son even loves this place and he can be a food snob. He likes that the veggies are always fresh, the food is well seasoned (not Americanized version), the presentation is decent, and the price is reasonable. Hubby loves it coz on my lazy days the food is good and it's close enough to go for take out. We've tried almost all the different Thai Restaurants in SD North county and there are a few good ones but we are now permanently Thai Thai customers when it comes to Thai Food. Overall I'd rate it 5 except some dishes need a bit more basic seasoning so I'm giving this...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place. The owner is so nice and welcoming that I hate to give her a low review, but I have now wasted over $100 in food and feel terrible due to their levels of spicy...
I have been to Thailand many times, eaten Thai food all over the world and have never experienced the spicy scale at Thai Thai.
I always order Spicy Beef salad and Papaya Salad... I first ordered in and asked for a 7. It was super spicy, but I understood and was OK given that I asked for a 7. Even though I order 7 or 8 everywhere and Thai Thai is much hotter. So here is where I take issue...
The next time I ordered same items and asked for a 4. Got it home and was SUPER spicy. I didn't see a difference from the 7
And now months after I decided to give it another try. I ordered a 3 and ended up thowing it away. No difference from the 7 or 4 from what I can tell.
Thai food should have a multitude of flavors in one dish. Thai Thai is missing 4 out of 5 critical taste components to their food. If all you want is burn this is the place for you, but it's not...
