Taverna Mediterranean Grill — Restaurant in Vista

We have been coming to this place, almost every Monday from Menifee, Riverside County. I have to take care of Mom's shopping because she doesn't drive anymore. This is our place because of the food. Until yesterday July 28, 2025. We walked in, very excited and then "The Letdown" instead of the usual pleasant host? A laptop so we can order like they do in McDonalds. We hate McDonalds because of that and also they have nasty food. But when your favorite place tries to mimic McDonald's ordering style? We turned around and walked out. This is the ONLY reason we gave up on this place. To be fair, if you don't mind putting your order in on a computer screen? Then this place has got to be the place for you. The food is always 5 star in my book. Their portions are very good. I just hope for the rest of the public, they don't change the portions like they did the ordering process. We will not be going back because of that, but if you haven't tried Taverna, please drop in and taste their fare. Yes, we know it sounds childish about the ordering process, but with all the stupid changes in the industry (we stopped going to many places due to the quality and attitude of the staff) we had to...

Woooooowwww. Just wow. The Greek salad with lamb and beef gyro was the best Greek salad I’ve ever had. The gyro meat was so tender and juicy. Not a stale piece in site! The flavor was out of this world. I can’t wait to go back and get just a gyro or their gyro fries!! The sautéed veggies on the salad were divine. There was huge roasted cloves of garlic that melted in your mouth!! The tzatziki appetizer was HUGE! It was the creamiest, garlic and dill forward sauce ever. The pita was so hot and freshly made—chefs kiss. And not to mention…I showed interest in the feta fries but did not order them. And what do you know….she gave me an order just to TRY!! Now that’s what bringing customers back means. The honey mustard dressing was outstanding. The silence at the dinner table said enough. I will 100000% be coming back. I am not wait to try everything! And to top it off-amazing prices for substantial amount of food....

We went here for the first time based on all the great reviews but our experience was 'Meh'-diterranean. The only really good thing was the gyro meat; very moist, tender, and fresh with a delicious charred taste. The salads were also very fresh and nicely dressed. My husband's gyro plate was good but the spanokopita I ordered came out burned and too tough to cut even. I was offered a different piece or something else. I requested a different piece but the kitchen said the whole pan was like my piece so they gave me my money back. Why would they even try to sell it? Our babaganouch was just okay.
