Me and my husband ate here for the 2nd time and I don't think we will ever go back. The 1st time the food was good but our ticket was sort of high. What we added up and the ticket was a little different Im guessing they either put a small tip on there or there tax is high there but not sure since it doesn't show you what they charge you for on the receipt. This time we went I ordered carne guisada again and the amount they give you is little to none. I just thought maybe the 1st time the cook just didn't give a lot but getting it again and seeing other reviews Im guessing its always like that. They give you mostly juice then the meat. My husband got the same thing he did the 1st time we went which was the steak and eggs and this time they put some kind of salsa on it and my husband asked if he could get eggs made with no salsa and all they did was scrap off the salsa and gave him the same eggs. I told them before I ordered I was also going to get menudo but it was going to be a togo order. So after getting home I gave it to my dad there was no hominy and when I say no hominy I mean NONE. Not even one. I called them to ask if they don't put hominy in there menudo bc I did not get any in mine. The lady told me they do if I wanted to come get it I live a little outside of waco and wasn't going back she just said she will ask the cook what happened and that was it. I think this will be our last time...
Read moreNew restaurant for me. I was downtown for equipment pickup and training. So, I wanted to have something on that side of town. I had never been here.
I tried the (can you guess?) Carne Guisada. It was delicious. Flavorful, but not too spicy. Tender chunks of meat. The corn tortillas were the fluffy type. The rice and beans were decent, but didn't have much flavor. The guacamole was delicious, but had too much cilantro. I don't like the leafy texture. It looked like the made it fresh just for me. The salsa was flavorful without being hot. With my meal, they brought green and red salsa. The green didn't seem hot at all while the red was very spicy. Backward from what I'm accustomed to. I should have put a couple drops of the red on the Guisada and in the beans.
The dining room was full, but there are only around a dozen tables inside. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. I got the impression some were from out of town by the conversation (which I more easily understand now.)
I wanted to speak Spanish, but I don't have the confidence. I know that native speakers will be forgiving of me if I get things wrong, just as I am for non-native English speakers (and some English speakers).
The decorations were amazing. I could have stared at the paintings all day. Pics that do not do them justice below.
It was a lovely stop on a...
Read moreI was on the lookout for something different from my usual morning fast food routine, especially since it was only 6 AM. Thankfully, I found El Charro Tapatio open early, and I’m so glad I did! From the moment I stepped in, the welcoming staff—some very kind ladies—made me feel right at home.
The restaurant’s newly renovated interior looked fantastic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I decided to order a breakfast burrito packed with plenty of ingredients to go, and while I waited, they even offered me a complimentary drink—such a thoughtful touch!
When my waitress brought out the burrito, I was blown away. It was enormous, measuring around 4 inches in diameter and 8 inches long, weighing nearly 2 pounds! The portion was so generous that I could only finish half, and I was completely satisfied. The burrito was beautifully prepared, with the tortilla perfectly grilled on the outside, and it tasted absolutely delicious.
I would highly recommend El Charro Tapatio—great food, friendly service, and an excellent...
