This place is truly a hidden gem straight out of the 1960s. To start, I am a huge fan of hole-in-the-wall dives, so if that is not your thing, stay clear. Also do NOT judge a book by it's cover. This roadside diner may have some exterior work needed, but with the stainless steel sliding doors, I am so glad they have kept the history with this diner.
Booths are a little small, but let's be honest, people are bigger now than in the 1960s. Came with 3 friends and we all ordered something different and all enjoyed our meals. The place is so small that our waitress was able to yell things to us from across the counter, which we loved. I could see how some might find it rude, but we were all about it.
A couple things that I thoroughly enjoyed from our visit: The bathrooms are super clean and actually pretty up to date. That is a big plus for me! The chef/owner makes his french fries from scratch. Hell yeah. Coffee was good, I even had 2 cups which never happens for me. A special for this dive is ordering bottles of Snapple! Our waitress helped some regulars, and knew exactly what Snapples they wanted which was awesome.
The only thing I was uneasy about was that I had to pay a little extra to have my homefries cooked well-done. But otherwise, our bill was more than reasonable, with big omelettes only costing about $6.50 with homefries, toast, and meat!
This place was so awesome and I would love to go back. They have a great thing going for them, and I hope that they continue to do amazing things! Hopefully I have a need to come back to the area so I can stop at The Roadside...
Read moreAs I was waiting to be seated (table of 6) there was a journalist who wanted to write an article on the restaurant. She asked the waitress to speak to a manager. The waitress who was a slim female with salt and pepper hair was EXTREMELY RUDE. She was going off "its a Saturday, it's busy, come back Tuesday, who sent you?!?!?" In my head, I'm thinking "What if this journalist is going to attract more business to this Diner". When it came to seating my 6, she was so rude. She shouted there's no booth for six, you take the stools. Clearly there was an empty booth so I told her to relax that we'll seat ourselves in the booth. She told me to relax. She was such a miserable person. Our table just got up and left. If she doesn't like her job, she should find herself...
Read moreI was first here over 25 years ago back when I lived in North Jersey and was traveling to the shore. Live not far away now, but just never had the opportunity to get here. Stopped here for breakfast with my wife. Everything was made perfect, the coffee (both regular and decaf) was great, and the staff were friendly. You can say it's small, but I say it's cozy. Old as dirt with, what I understand to be, most of the original features from the 1940's. A cool front door that slides open and closed. They have a high tech rotary phone by the register. Worth going just for the historic aspect with the additional bonus of having an inexpensive great meal. A side note, when I was here over 25 years ago, it was...
