I really wanted to like this place but they have some work to do to dial in their product, perhaps they are still in their "trial and error phase" and hopefully they can respectfully take some criticism and use it to make some improvements. We were there before the dinner rush, all 3 of us ordered a smash burger, all 3 burgers came out cooked to a different consistency, sadly mine was about as dry and dead as one can get with a meat patty - not enough sauces and toppings in the world could have revived that thing. Due to food allergies I had to forego their "signature sauce" and I can say without that, the burger is very bland, Ketchup and mayo were of no assistance there either. All of our fries came out cold or room temperature at best and were a bit rubbery and the garlic bits were sitting at the bottom and played no roll in flavoring the potatoes, perhaps some other seasoning salts would have been beneficial here. Service and prices were great though and I hope when they get their liquor license they feature local or mostly PNW products in the bar to pay homage to the area. I don't pass through town very often so i don't know how long they've been open and perhaps they were just having a bad night when we stopped in. I might give them another try on another visit after they've been around for a while to see of they've dialed in some consistency and figured out how to make a juicy...
Read moreFirst and foremost - the food is fantastic - period Service wasn't bad - when our order arrived at the table it was 2 out of 3 correct. It appeared that I received someone else's burger despite pointing to it and commenting about the ridiculousness of it when ordering it (the Silly Young King) BUT it was quickly replaced/corrected.
The seasoning on the fries is phenomenal, consistent, and pairs well with everything we've ordered here.
If you are adventurous, order the Silly Young King - a double smash burger with cheddar, perfectly crisp bacon, PEANUT BUTTER (yes, you ready that correctly), between 2 SUGAR GLAZED DOUGHNUTS (and yes, you read that correctly too). It is shocking how well this tastes. The only complaint one might have is the difficulty in trying to eat it because of the size and everything involved with it. However, it is worth whatever mess you make of yourself and the followup visit to a cardiologist (that you DEFINITELY should make).
They could open one in the Tri-Cities and it would make a killin (and there's more...
Read moreLong drive and checked in to the seedy motel next door. I had no idea that right next to me that Friday night was the best burger I'd have in a long time. Went in expecting a bunch of locals wondering who I was and found a bunch of the youngest and hippest people in Walla Walla. Cheech and Chong poster on the wall watching I ordered a Not Yo' Burger and a cider. It came out in minutes. It was huge.
I'm a big man so I know a few things about burgers, donuts, and pizza. One of my pet peeves is people conflating "big and messy" with "good" when it comes to burgers. This burger was big and messy and delicious. Perfect. I have not tasted ground beef like that in a very long time - seasoning or natural? I have no clue. It was beefy though. I don't even like fries and I ate all of the fries. I'm dieting now and this wrecked me for the weekend... but in a good way. Worth the weight I gained; now I know and I'm glad Fu-Burger is 4 hours away from me.
I ate like the urban gentleman I am with a knife and fork. Come to Portland...
