A friend treated me to dinner here on August 16, 2019. This was my first visit to Ruth’s Chris and I was eagerly anticipating an outstanding filet mignon - this is my all time favorite and the only entree I order when I go out to a fine dining establishment. Let me start by saying the restaurant was beautiful - we got there early, about 4:30pm, so only one other table was occupied. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating to our every request. I had taken one of the fliers at the desk which showed the filet I was about to enjoy - the usual 2”+ thick round of luscious indulgence! You can imagine my surprise when a half inch thick steak arrived! I asked the waiter why it looked that way - he said it had something to do with the temperature and cooking because I asked for it to be cooked “medium” - I didn’t understand the explanation - he offered to change it; I showed him the picture on the flier - he offered to talk with the chef - in the interest of time, I declined. I should have said yes. This “filet” tasted more like a rib eye and, judging by the effort needed to cut it, it probably was some cut of beef steak. In any case, we let the matter go. The mashed garlic potatoes were great. The bread pudding was to die for. My friend enjoyed her dinner. I would have dismissed the whole thing except that, the very next day, I watched an episode of the Phantom Gourmet who reviewed a visit to the Waltham venue and bragged about the filet mignon and the fact that a knife is not needed because you can cut it with a fork! That was the last straw! My friend paid good money for a filet that was not as advertised. My friend called and spoke to someone in management a few days later to express our disappointment. The person told her, the next time she comes back, to be sure to mention her name - no promise of a discount, no offer of a gift card, no mention of a free filet - just mention the name. We are both thoroughly disappointed with the response from this restaurant. I would not return and I would not recommend it to anyone. Such a shame. P.S. As a result of the above post, I received a call from someone in management at the Waltham restaurant who asked me some questions and expressed genuine regret for my dissatisfaction. He sent me a very generous gift card which I will use when I go back to the restaurant to enjoy that fork tender filet mignon. I am impressed with the quick response from Ruth’s Chris Management and am looking forward to a return visit in the...
Read moreIt has been a while since I have written a review, but I felt compelled to write one again tonight after my experience at Ruth’s Chris in Waltham. I was there tonight with a party of 7. I had made a reservation earlier in the day for 6:00pm, and our whole party was seated promptly at our arrival, and we were one of only three parties in the dining room at the time of our arrival. Throughout the meal, the service couldn’t have been better. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives of my experience end.
Every member of our 7 person party ordered a steak, amounting to 6 filets and 1 ribeye, all ordered either medium or medium-rare. After our appetizers and a decent wait for the food, we were presented with our main courses, complete with all the theatrics of Ruth’s Chris and its 500° plates. Unfortunately, these relatively superficial accoutrements failed to mask the fact that every single steak was severely overcooked. Not a single one was lighter than a medium-well. I understand mistakes can be made, especially with large orders, but to have zero out of seven steaks executed correctly is rather abysmal for the caliber that Ruth’s Chris is (or at least considers itself to be).
The steaks were sent back and remade after a talk with a somewhat apathetic manager. The wait staff however couldn’t have been more apologetic. They were absolutely the highlight of the visit, and of course it’s in no way their fault that the Ruth’s Chris kitchen seemingly can’t execute a simple medium-rare steak. The steaks returned after a considerable amount of time, and all of them were remade close enough to our specifications that we decided it wasn’t worth complaining again.
Ultimately, what I find most unacceptable about all of this is that Ruth’s Chris has priced itself in the same bracket as Abe and Louie’s or Smith and Wollensky: a comparison that seemed laughable after this visit. Our party spent nearly $1000 by the end of the night, and I’ve had better experiences at other restaurants for a quarter of that price, and a better steak at Texas Roadhouse. It seems it might be time to focus a tad less on the spectacle of a sizzling 500° plate and a bit more on making sure food is cooked the way it...
Read moreI want to start off by saying out waiter was great the 6 appetizers we got were great. The shellfish Tower is awsome. The wine we got was perfect with the food we had ordered. All of the above shoul be a 5 star review until we ordered our steaks I told the waiter at the very beginning I had 2 horrible experiences at the ruth Chris in Boston and told him why. When you go to a steak house as expensive as ruth Chris and order a 50 dollar steak it should come out the way you ordered it. I told the waiter not to put butter or parsley on my steak I am allergic to parsley. When a allergy is involved you would think that could never be screwed up. People die by mistakes like that. What if I had not noticed what would they do then. There response was we will get you another steak which takes another 20 minutes so every one at the table was done when it came out at that point I was so pissed I didn't even want it. The manager came to the table apologized and took the one steak off the bill. Yeah you almost put me in the hospital buy thanks for a free steak I never ate. If you have a allergy don't go to this restaurant. Our bill was still almost 300 and we still gave the waiter a 20 percent tip. Like I said in the beginning of this review everything was awsome up until they ignored the most important thing we told the waiter all night no parsley I'm allergic. This is the 3rd time this has happened to me at 3 different Ruth Chris restaurants. All I can say if you have kids or a loved one with allergies don't go or trust this restaurant. They say there the best well from personal experience in the restaurant industry. They are the worst of the worst. If you want a good steak house go to flank or the couch grill grill in Wayland. I have been to both and there staff is amazing. When it comes down to it I can't give less than one star I could I would. If this is how ruth chris treats peole save you money there is so many better options for adults but if you have kids with and allergies don't go to this...
