UPDATE** Decided to try it again because I really wanted to like the place. Unfortunately this second visit did not change my opinion. Right away when we tried to order our drinks they had run out of the scotch 1 person wanted, had been out of it for a week. The waitress, who could barely use the handheld device she was using, didn't seem to know anything at all about scotch, so was stumped by every question asked. In the end we ordered a different brand & was served a drink that was quite litterally 2 sips! When we said something we were told that we should have ordered a "rocks pour" WHAT??!! He ordered scotch ON THE ROCKS!! Now there's a secret code for getting what you should get when you order a drink?? When did this become a thing!!??!! If you order a drink ON THE ROCKS a "rocks pour" should be an automatic thing! Sorry to say, but we won't be going back. This place needs to get it together! PS the fish tacos were good, the baked haddock was good, but this time the service was not. Went for Easter & was very disappointed. After having trouble making reservations, & management making it right, we had high hopes. We were first struck by the per person price when we got there. We know times are tough right now, but $35/person seemed a bit high. The buffet was set up nicely for people to be able to serve from both sides, but nothing was hot & they struggled to keep the it stocked. They “ran out” of oysters & prime rib during the noontime seating. We were told they miss calculated. We understand that this was their first holiday, but they own 2 other locations so we expected better. We will say that they have made beautiful renovations to the building & the service was great, just very disappointed in the fact that the food was not hot & they “ran out” of 2 of the more sought after menus items.

We've known this place is a 5/5 for dinner for a while now. The perfect combination of great drinks, great food, and great atmosphere. There's a lively bar area if you want to watch the game, and there's plenty of seating away from the bar if you prefer a quieter setting. But this time, we decided to try their brunch, and even though our standards were already high due to how great their dinner is, we were still very impressed. The boozy iced coffee flight was delicious, and while we don't like bloody Mary's, it was tempting to get one just because of the expansive toppings bar they had for them. We had the deviled eggs, the short rib hash, the biscuits and gravy, and the beignets, and of course everything was fantastic. The short rib hash was nice and savory with perfectly crispy home fries, and the massive biscuits and gravy were surprisingly sweet with the Vermont maple sausage gravy. The only reason we don't come here every week for dinner is because we know it's going to be a larger bill, which is not a complaint since the quality is well worth the price, but the brunch was surprisingly economical. We'll definitely be coming here for brunch more often, and maybe I'll even try a bloody Mary next time.

Out for another weekend drive with Dad exploring new sights and sounds. We ended up at the Cape Cod Canal watching boats go by. On the way home, coming through Wareham, we found the Towne Tavern. It was the first visit for both of us. Our server, Julia, was pleasant and engaging. She rose to the challenge when I had her pick my lunch and surprise me (I gave her a few things to choose from). Dad had the Steak Tips and Julia choose the Baked Haddock - Towne Newburg Style for me. Both meals had generous portions and were prepared to perfection. I'd never had fish prepared this way. "Towne Newburg Style" meant that the haddock was covered in a layer of their seafood bisque prior to being baked. The result was next level. Chunks of lobster meat and other seafoods were on every other forkful.

I don't know what Mary's problem with me was, but it's definitely not worth returning. From the time I was seated, it was like I owed her money or something. She just seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. My son caught the werid attitude and assumed it was because of the way he ordered his soda. Maybe I bothered her because I was cold and rubbing my arms.

After we placed our drink orders, I asked my family's opinion regarding the mood from the waitress. My fiancee didn't seem to notice at first but caught it the next time she came to the table. Each approach to our table seemed to bother her. I assumed it was just her personality until I noticed she was pleasant and friendly with her other tables. So clearly, I must have done something.

It wasn't until my baked haddock arrived on top of the mash potatoes with asparagus (that I didn't order) buried under it all. When the very friendly, courteous, and sweet manager asked about my meal, I expressed that it wasn't what I was expecting nor as I ordered, and she offered to correct it. At this point, i don't really want to risk what I'll get back, so I informed her I would rather pass on the meal. When Mary returned to my table, her reaction to my decision was aggressive and rude. She looked as if I insulted her cooking directly. I informed her that the manager handled the matter. She looked so annoyed, I could only mimic her facial expression in an attempt to reflect her impression, and it wasn't until she was about to walk away that she smiled, which I then in turn did the same. I'm a really friendly, jokey person and I try to be compassionate and understanding. Everyone is entitled to bad days and poor behavior. We're all human. I just struggle with it when she was able to serve with a smile and a positive attitude to other tables.

Let me know what it was that I did that bothered her so much, I'll try to work on it. Perhaps she can make the same attempt.

My fiancee got the honey glazed pizza and looked a bit greaser than our last visit, but it's good and has a unique taste. The pretzels are delicious, and the chicken tenders are tasty. My son said his chicken sandwich was good as well.

I left with no dinner, so I'll grab something on my way back to NH. I'll find another location to visit next time I come down. I wouldn't want to bother Mary again. Thanks for the...

Finally had a chance to try this place since being opened and can say the new decor is great except for all the TVs and Keno screens in the dining room. When we arrived we were greeted and seated straight away and our waitress was great and took good care of us. I couldn't wait to try the food as I had not eaten all day and was excited from all the good reviews we had heard from others. We started the meal with the steak and cheese egg rolls and they were nice and full of meat and came with a nice spicy dipping sauce. After we ate our appetizer our salads came and they were very fresh and very large for a small salad, so we had high hopes for the mains.

So the mains came and I had the braised short ribs and that's when I noticed that there wasn't much meat on the plate, and What was there was very tough, fatty and tasted like old reheated prime rib. The plate was mostly filled with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts and the whole meal was very over salted making it hard to eat. My wife had the chicken pot pie and it tasted decent but there was barely any chicken in it and not a lot of peas or carrots either and it was over salted as well. The top crust was super thin and half cooked. Also the whole bowel was filled with mashed potatoes and the gravy with what little chicken there was, was all on the sides and none in the middle as it was a mountain of mashed potatoes which is unacceptable.

My wife also ordered the wine and what was served to my wife was almost non existent and two glasses wouldn't even suffice for a glass at any other restaurant we frequent. Also I did not feel well after I came home and spent the next day in the bathroom.

For the price that is charged for these meals it is bad that they are filled with fillers like mashed potatoes and the real parts to the meal are lacking and insufficient. We were very disappointed in our meals but the service was great so it's hard for me to give this 2 stars. I was hoping for a great new local place to go, but I can say I will not be returning...
