So, from my original review the owner of the business called me the day after and we spoke about the experience, while it didn't change the food at the time it's nice to hear that the owner cares and wants to reply to the feedback. The food was not for me and might be for others, I can say I have had the pizza and really enjoyed it.
Thanks for caring about your business.
Not sure what has happened here but the food has gone down hill at a rapid rate. I called today asking about the menu since the website was down, I asked if they had sandwiches and they said yes. What I received was an absolute disgrace. After calling in ordering an Italian grinder and a meatball sub without a bun I was told it was going to be 30 minutes for pick up. I showed up a little early and was willing to wait what I found is a restaurant with three people in it. The wait didn’t bother me, but the food that I received did. I asked for lettuce and tomato on my sandwich, they said no problem but we have to put it on the side, then arrived to find the equivalent of a side salad and being charged five dollars for lettuce and tomato on a sandwich.
The Italian sandwich does not come on bread, but comes on completely overcooked tasteless pizza dough folded in half. The meats which looked like just ham with a single slice of some sort of pepperoni inside was bland and covered in a terrible provolone cheese and a mountain of raw onion.
The meatball sandwich with no bun and just sauce and cheese, came with some sort of off tasting ricotta, funky provolone cheese. The meatballs have absolutely no flavor and the provolone was the only thing you could taste.
All in all the food was awful and tasteless, sad to see it go this way. I hope the pizza is better but I’m not going to try it again...
Read moreThis review is actually from my husband who is a culinarian with over 20 years experience- I was so disgusted with tonight's meal and service and sadly to say I will NEVER be returning. Long story short all I've been wanting for days and days was a meatball and ricotta pizza from Federal Hill Pizza. Unfortunately what was served to my wife and I was a product that I personally would've thrown in the trash. First off visibly you could not even see any meatball on the pizza which eventuallythey took off our bill. Second you should offer your customers a choice of either shredded mozzarella or the Sicilian style which looks like there's no cheese on the pizza. I personally prefer shredded mozzarella on a pizza so sadly when our pizza arrived it looked like a big mess of dough and ricotta cheese with no meatballs on it at all. And to really get my blood boiling our server instead of trying to rectify the situation and make the customers happy he went on to blame the "new kitchen staff" which is the complete wrong answer when you are in customer service . All it would have taken to make us happy and we would not be writing this review right now that when we pointed out that there was no meatball on the pizza he should have said let me take that back and put some more meatballs on this for you but instead he went on to blame a poorly trained kitchen staff for the error. One thing I've learned in my 20 plus years in food service, CONSISTENCY is one of the keys to a successful business. Tonight was a huge let down for me and Federal Hill Pizza you have lost 2 good customers from the...
Read moreIt's sad to write this - but Federal Hill Pizza has gone downhill over the years, especially for the price. Our family has eaten here for years as the food is really good, even though the service has always been not great (especially with delivery).
Today we ordered take out, and the food took much longer than the 60-65 min estimate online. By the time estimate, it wasn't ready when I arrived, once it was "ready" the staff told me the kitchen was slammed and they removed items from our order, without notice. At a minimum, finish the ticket guys....we ended up just asking for an entire refund (not sure if we actually got it, staff didn't have much assurance there). Regrettably, this will be the last time we order from here (sad). Most of the restaurant was empty, except for the 7-8 other folks hovering around the bar area waiting for their own takeout orders.
With my family waiting for dinner at home, I placed an order at The Wave (not many other pizza places open on a Sunday), and by the time I drove from Federal Hill Pizza to there - it was ready for pickup, right on time, and a larger order (food came out much faster). If you are looking at this review, go to Pio's (or literally anyplace else) instead.
Hopefully the series of recent negative reviews is a wake up call to turn this place around, because it really used to be the standard other pizza places were compared to around here. Smaller pizzas, larger prices, a gutted menu, and no consistency in delivery or in-house service makes this restaurant a hard pass for us...
