This is a great record store--it always has been. You should absolutely check it out. The new location is beautiful, too. However, the thing that prompted me to write a review of In Your Ear Records isn't any of this. I was browsing and overheard a phone conversation one of the managers (owner?) was having with a customer and a few things he said caught my attention.
"Regardless of whether [employee] was right or wrong, the way you treated [employee] was inappropriate"
"I'm not talking about the issue you had in-store, I want to address your behavior"
"The customer is not always right, c'mon" (I just completely agree with this sentiment and wanted to add that in).
There was a lot more said, but everything was expressed respectively and succinctly. He never accused the customer of being wrong or escalated their disagreement. He took every chance to support the employee and set clear expectations about future in-store interactions with the customer. It was an impressive display of calm rationality in the face of frustration.
Support our local businesses. Especially the ones that go out of their way to treat people with respect and dignity. This is the kind of place that deserves it.
My only gripe is that I can never find any Mountain Goats albums in the racks, so a star has been removed...
Read moreThe people who dis this place have their expectations way out of whack. This isn't Tiffany's after all. You're buying used, smelly records for cents on the dollar, don't go in there looking for premium service, space or prices. The value in a record store has always been in the selection, not the clerk of the day. It's getting harder to find this stuff and I'm glad to see it's not getting tossed. Condition? Buyer beware. They're not trying to scam you, it's just the way vinyl is and always has been. I have plenty of records in my collection which were abused on a wild party night. Anyways, I was there last fall and spent $100 in 2 hours. Brought back a lot of great memories, even if just for one song. I used to play the albums and read the cover and jacket while listening, back when effort was put into covers to make them original, creative and artistic.
Are you really gonna whine about some grumpy store clerk? Get a life. Sometimes you gotta put up with s##$ to get to the gold. Clearly it's hit or miss. Depends what collector or grandma decides to unload that week. I'm happy to see it jammed full of disks , making it difficult to move around. That screams of selection.
p.s., I'll be back there tomorrow. Bye...
Read moreI don't normally write reviews and I'm new to the area but I just had to gush about this place! Great atmosphere. Fantastic prices, no other store in the area is even remotely competitive in that regard for me. Well organized, alphabetically and by genre, and tons of things to choose from. Tons of LPs, ranging anywhere from punk, folk, imports, local, psychedelic, goth, classical, country, rock, RnB/soul, comedy, soundtracks, jazz... you WILL find someone/something you like. They have cassettes, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, VHS, magazines, books, concert/press photos, some electronics, record players, pins. My favorite area is the $1 CD section, I've been able to pick up practically brand new Bob Dylan, Whitney Houston, Joni Mitchell, etc. CDs... it's just about taking the time to dig. I like that a lot of the LPs are in poly sleeves. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff, always chatting with customers and ready at the wings to help. I am a college-aged female and I have never once been made to feel uncomfortable or out-of-place here, everyone is made to feel welcomed. I've spent hours upon hours of my free days here. My first stop for any and all of my music needs, or...
