Went on a Sunday for lunch with my partner. Even though the restaurant was almost full, we sat at the bar where our service was quick and attentive. We were both quite looking forward to eating here after reading the great reviews, but ultimately our food was disappointing, mediocre, and overpriced.
We first got an order of chicken tenders/boneless wings to share. I suppose chicken nuggets is a more accurate name because the pieces were on the smaller side. Despite them having a crispy exterior and a well cooked interior, the nuggets were severely underseasoned. Both the chicken and the batter were tasteless which completely ruined them. Additionally, these cost $14 which was too expensive for what you get.
Onto the biggest disappointments: the burgers. I got the smash classic with a side caesar salad. The burger was unimpressive and forgettable. Much like the nuggets, the beef was underseasoned (possibly not seasoned at all) so the burger just tasted like plain beef. The "house pickles" were so flavorless you could've put plain cucumbers inside that burger and it wouldn't have changed anything. That side caesar salad was without a doubt the worst caesar salad I've had in my life. I always get the dressing on the side, but I couldn't mix it together because of the small, flimsy cardboard container they serve it in. Instead, I had to dip the lettuce into the dressing like if they were chips and salsa. The croutons were downright inedible. Allegedly "garlic butter croutons" but those were just oil-drenched cubes with no flavor aside from oil. The bottom of the salad had a bunch of indiscernible fried bits which I still don't know if they were fried shallots, or bacon bits, or pieces of the croutons. Regardless, they were just sitting at the bottom and only tasted like oil. That salad was arguably greasier than the burger and it cost 3 extra dollars; insulting. $19 for that!
My partner got the house burger, which for some reason is the only burger on the menu that is NOT a smash burger. Instead, you get served a thick burger patty that is cooked to what I'm assuming was medium term. The server did not ask how we wanted the burger cooked so they just brought it like that. As with everything else, the burger was underseasoned (or not at all). The issue here was exacerbated due to the patty being so thick, so there was no escape from the plain beef flavor. There really was no saving grace to that burger. The lack of seasoning made it nearly inedible. The only enjoyable food in our entire meal were the fries that came with this burger. $17 for this one.
Looking at the reviews, maybe we just had bad luck and the person that made our food doesn't know what salt and pepper is. Or maybe the food is supposed to be like that and you get all the flavor by smothering your food in sauces. Either way, our food was so mediocre that you can't pay me to go and...
Read moreWent recently to visit the new location. This was my wife and I's fourth or fifth visit and as always we had an excellent meal. Typically we go for the burgers, which are always cooked perfectly and stacked with thoughtfully selected toppings, but this time I tried a chicken sandwich and my wife tried their fish sandwich.
The sandwich I had was the spring special "Caprese", which had their fried chicken sat upon a layer of basil and corn mayo (aioli? who cares - it was delicious). Atop the chicken was tomato, mozzarella, and a couple strips of bacon for good measure. It was a somewhat bizarre package, but the flavors worked well to create a savory, creamy, and mildly sweet sandwich. The chicken itself didn't stand out to me, but there was a lot of flavor and texture to compete with. Next time I'm going to try something more straightforward to judge the chicken on its own merits.
My wife's fish sandwich was excellent. It reminded me a lot of a certain chain restaurant's fish fillet sandwich, but with the ingredient quality and execution turned way up.
We also got the crispy brussels sprouts app, which I highly recommend, and a couple of cocktails, both good and refreshing but not brag-worthy.
The new space was gorgeous. I love the way the interior evokes a ship's cabin and the beautiful waterfront views. I'm glad that even in the new location Chomp is turning out top tier food. I've loved this place since it opened, and I'm really excited to see them movin' up...
Read moreEdit: this happened in August, but for some reason my review was never public until I took out one word. will repost it til my face turns blue. Lol this is such an Unaccountable, disgusting establishment.
This is to the 3 rude young girls working the hostess table: you deserved to be fired lol. I’m 23 and female, so is my best friend. We walk up to the hostess booth at 5:05 on a Sunday. We spot more than a handful (maybe 10-11) of tables open, yet they tell us it’s a 30 minute wait which I get, could be reserved. Also, no bar seating. We politely said okay no worries, have a great day! They scoffed and rolled their eyes as we walked away and started mumbling. We get in the car directly in front of the booth, and see an older couple walk up. They get menus handed to them and seated immediately. Then we see a group of 5 guys and a girl walk up, and also get menus and seated. Idk if it had to do with us being young women around their age that we were turned away, but that is terrible customer service with the rudeness attached to it. It was like talking to cliquey high school cheerleaders. And yes the tone of this review doesn’t sound nice, but my friend and I were SO polite to them we just wanted a burger. Embarassing to not understand why we were turned away, then 8 people were seated right after. Wouldn’t recommend this spot if it was the last place to eat on earth. You got some immature, young girls working the hostess booth,...
