Nicky D's — Restaurant in Warren

After patronizing Nicky D's 8 Mile/ Mound Rd. on a weekly basis for the last 20 years, I will NEVER visit again. The quality and customer service has significantly changed, and yesterday's visit was the icing on the cake. I ordered a grilled chicken salad 11/23/2021. The chicken on the salad was clearly old, as the cheese they typically put on top partially melted. After further review, some of the chicken was hard and crunchy, all hidden under the cheese. I did not eat the salad and barely disturbed the presentation while examining. I called and informed Nicky D's of the issue, agreed to return the problematic salad, and asked that a new grilled chicken salad be ready upon my arrival. After waiting 15 minutes, I again explain the issue, give the old salad back, and wait ten more minutes for a new salad. The new salad had two cucumber slices, one tomato slice, an egg, and a teaspoon of cheese. The grilled chicken was on the side and had been MICROWAVED to appear hot. I mean it was extremely hot. When home, the microwaved chicken, which was still warm, was stuck together, hard, and extremely dry. Very insulting, especially when a regular customer gives the establishment an opportunity to make it right. This was not the first issue I've had in the last six months, one of many, including missing order items and unsavory attitudes and mannerisms. I gave 1 star because I couldn't give 0. In my 10+ years of patronizing this location, this was by far the worst food and service I ever had. It was horrific, nearly unedible. I ordered a Double Bacon Cheeseburger for myself & A slinger corned beef deluxe for my girlfriend. Let's start with her Slinger. The bread wasn't toasted, her meat and cheese were cold and uncooked. It looked like a cold cut sandwich you'd make at home, it just tasted much worse. My double cheeseburger was supose to have mayo instead of Nicki Sauce. Instead, they gave me 2 dry patties with zero condiments (not even my mayo I asled for)!!!! The patties tasted terrible. The customer service was even worse. The girl at the register was rude and lied to my face about my order not being ready when I was looking right at it for 10 minutes. People walked in ordered and got their orders before I got my order that was done. Then when the store clears out she finally hands me my order and said it just got ready and she just bagged it. I dont even live in the area anymore but will drive and half hour just to eat here because the food is usually amazing. I feel like a practical joke was played on me. This was one of the most blatant examples of discrimination I’ve experienced while working delivery.

I arrived to pick up an Uber Eats order and saw the bag already sitting on the counter when I walked in. I politely asked how long the wait would be, and the woman working the counter just kept repeating, “You have to wait, sir,” over and over—never once checking or asking for the name. She insisted there were people ahead of me, but I watched her take and fulfill orders for customers who had just walked in, while my bag sat untouched in plain sight.

After nearly 15 minutes of being ignored, I finally said, “Listen, I just want to know how long the wait is,” and only then did she ask for the name. She immediately grabbed the same bag that had been sitting there since I got there and handed it to me—no explanation, no apology.

As an Arab man, I’ve dealt with subtle racism before, but this felt deliberate. The way I was ignored while others were helped, the dismissive tone, and her complete unwillingness to acknowledge me until I spoke up—it felt personal. And when I finally got the bag and pointed out that it had been ready all along, she just looked at me and said, “Have a good day” in a sarcastic tone.
