In all SINCERITY...and trying to be Fair the best thing about this dining experience was the new young server named Maliyah..she was very pleasant during our first time eating here and it was her first day. ONLY high fructose ketchup packets offered and they limit your ketchup. No fresh condiments offered. The breaded cheesy cauliflower as stated on the menu was NOT even as described no cheese and a very small portion given for 6.49 very disappointed when asked where the cheese was the manager replied to Maliyah very loudly IT IS WHAT IT IS let me tell you my lunch partner was shocked to hear this come from the Kitchen . The Burger was rated a 5 out of 10 but the Onions rings were RAW inside we didnt address that issue to the response of the manager over the Cauliflower incident. My Bacon Bleu Chicken sandwich was extremely Salty and Bitter I had ordered a side of Sweet Potato Fries but didnt recieved them as she came out 5 minutes later to say they had none so I ordered a coleslaw which ended up being Dry and Bland. The bill with tip $40.42. The manager did not check us out at the counter nor approach us to even address the dining experience. After leaving we had a bad after taste in our palettes. I am a lover of food as being a Sous Chef 15 years I know Custimer Service is vital for success and That Excellence of food is what brings people back. This restraunt lacked Both. Do not waste your hard cash here regardless of it being the Oldest place on the waterfront it lacks Enthusism for its patrons. No wonder the seats were Empty and only a couple in the corner .

I usually have at least a couple of little flaws to share about the establishments I visit because I want to be helpful towards people traveling so they know what to expect (keeping in mind that restaurant workers sometimes have bad days, so only when it’s something pretty serious). But this place? I was totally blown away. The menu has a very flavorful end unique selection. In going there with my family, we collectively ordered: - Fried mushrooms, fried jalapeño macaroni and cheese bites as appetizers - The Sweet Baby Ray’s pork chop dinner with onion rings, a biscuit, and baked apples - For my toddler, baked beans and baked apples (very much so toddler approved, and they have a full kid’s menu!) - Country fried chicken sandie with fried okra - The roast beef dinner with brown gravy, a biscuit, macaroni and cheese (white cheddar I believe), and mashed potatoes with gravy. - The Big Dipper Sandie (extra lean roast beef, horseradish sauce, American Swiss, and au jus to dip) with pickled beets and German potato salad. Our food was very good, the service was nice, and we felt very welcomed and comfortable!

Stopped in to eat breakfast food for a late lunch. I have to say the breakfast sandwich was exceptional. The biscuit was fluffy and the sausage patty was clearly not of the premade frozen variety. The hash browns were not my cup of tea, but I don't prefer the shredded type anyways. I also got a few bites of the ham steak and it was juicy and tender. Last but not least was a slice of the peach crumble pie. I can understand why Cowan's is known for their pie. It was a massive slice and enough for two people to share. Every bite was good including the crust around the edge. If you're in the area the pie as lone warrants a stop in. I got lucky and they went busy, but I've been told they get slammed at dinner time.

Disappointing. We went here for my moms Birthday, there is literally 0 room with the ‘wait to be seated sign’ so you’re literally standing directly in front of the doors - which wouldn’t be a big deal if someone was their ready to seat you. We waited for a good 10 minutes before an employee told my brother to ‘shut the second set of doors’ - rudely I might add. While him and my husband were waiting in between the two sets of doors and the rest of us were standing in front of them in the entrance. Exactly where are diners supposed to stand when there’s a group of 6 or 7 and no one is setting them at any table (you might say there wasn’t any tables - but there most definitely was including a table that was close to us with plenty of seats) 🙄 that’s before we even get seated. Once we do finally get seated the service was garbage. It took 20 minutes to even get our drinks, after which one of us that had coffee didn’t even get a refill until I asked about 10 minutes after they had the cup sitting at the end of the table, then an additional 10 minutes went by until we saw our waitress again and said ‘we still need this coffee refilled’ and she said ‘oh yea!’ And finally got the refill. They brought out my husbands toasted ravioli (the only thing he ordered so obviously not an appetizer) 25 minutes before they brought out the rest of our food.. honestly just a trash experience. Which is sad because we’ve heard good things...

I've been coming to Cowan's since I was a child with my family. Recently I've reignited my love for this restaurant.

My draw is for the pie but also the home cooking. I love "down home" style food, especially in a small cafe setting. The dining area is fairly small, but comfortable and not too loud. On the occasions I've went the food has been amazing and the pie is to die for.

That's what you are really coming here for - desserts. If you are able to get food and finish your whole plate you are doing good lol. I come specifically for the coconut meringue - I love it and it's HUGE. My cousin and I usually share it and sometimes still struggle to finish it. They usually have a large dessert case full of many desserts, but I haven't tried any others yet.

I've had the meatloaf dinner which was AMAZING and the country fried steak breakfast which I also enjoyed. My dining partner ordered a build your own omelet both times and raved about it. Last time a biscuit came with my meal but I was too full to eat it there. I reheated it later at home and WOW it was amazing. This was definitely a made from scratch biscuit. It has me needing to back and try their...
