I have dined at this restaurant multiple times and also gotten takeout a couple of times. The food is almost always fantastic, and the service as well. It’s also just down the street from where I live. So I want them to do well and be successful. My complaint is that the menu never seems to reflect what you might get, or what it might actually cost. I get that as a small business you might occasionally make changes and it’s not cheap to update your printed menus…but the waitress could mention it when we order and surely you could update the online menus, right? This review is really just about tonight’s experience because it was not good. When I ask for no sour cream on my entree, please don’t heap it on like you didn’t see the note. Also, when we order something based on the menu description, that is what we are expecting to receive. Not something less or different without at least being told and given the opportunity to change my order. I will consider changing my star rating in the future if these issues are corrected because this place really does have an opportunity to be great. It’s just the little things...
Read moreWent here on the 18th of August, we barely approached our seats (we sat outside) when the server came with some complimentary water. After visiting DC I know it is hard to get water so +1 for that.
She also offered mosquito repellent since we were being swarmed, and I got to say it was a first time for me. After that we placed our order and got our food, pupusas were 4 dollars each which is a bit higher than what I'm used to in Houston (but that is fine considering different cost of living). We also got a large horchata which wasn't indicated on the menu so who knows how much it was.
The pupusas had curtido on the side which we very much devoured. The horchata was good, albeit on the dustier side (did not bother me)
At the end we payed for our food and didn't get to see my receipt which isn't a great bother, however I would've loved to see how much the large horchata was due to my meal being upwards of 20 USD.
Overall, I...
Read moreHands down the BEST Mexican food I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner while visiting D.C. The restaurant is small and cozy, with more outdoor seating than indoor. The night we went, we didn’t have to wait at all to be sat inside. I got the birria quesadilla and my boyfriend got the birria tacos. I’m from Georgia and have been to multiple local Mexican restaurants and tried lots of birria quesadillas. Mary’s bar and grill has the BEST, and I mean THE BEST, MOST DELICIOUS birria quesadilla I have EVER HAD!!! I highly recommend this place!!! The servers were so sweet. You can tell they really want you to enjoy...
