So we were dropping off our daughter at AU and had been driving by. Seemed like a place we would enjoy. Nice patio, bar and a variety of dishes for us to choose from.
My husband put our name on the list for cost available. We stood there for about minutes watching the bus people slowly clear tables. We stood there some more and then approached a different host(a shorter brunette. The other one was tall with a bob) about a table. Her response was we had elected outside, but we didn’t. We chose whichever came open first. Well I guess the short brunette doesn’t like to be wrong as she gave us the biggest attitude and dirty look.
She continued to do this all the way to our table in the very back that touches the kitchen. (Which really is not a great seat!) other staff members who were not working that day decided to camp out next to our table and chat with the kitchen staff)
Our server on the other hand was kind, the right amount of attentiveness and was a pleasure to converse with.
My husband had oysters to start and the rest of the table had the chips with the 3 dips. Those items were good as were the drinks.
For our entrees, my husband had the steak , I had the seared tuna and our girls had quesadillas)
Hubby said the steak wasn’t good. But yet it wasn’t bad. It was meh! I would say the same about the tuna. Tuna and rice ok, but the salad was like weeds and very bitter. Girls didn’t comment too much on the quesadillas, but honestly how does one mess they up.
My feelings are mixed. Not sure I will return over the next 4 years.
A hostess sets the tone of a restaurant. Our tone was off from the start.
To the other person who questioned her treatment based off of being Asian, I’m not, but i feel this as we are...
Read moreThey did an outstanding job with the space which previously housed Chicken Out. The upscale beach-like restaurant has an inside which flows like a sweet summer breeze into the outside. You can order more informally from a walk up window with a selection of coastal food and ice cream. From there you can sit on picnic benches under tall clothed umbrellas. Alternatively, saunter into the bar and dining room inside for a more traditional experience.
The staff works hard to make sure everyone is enjoying their summerlike experience, but I think they are still softening some of the barefoot to sharp seashell edges of the place. To be fair, this is their Memorial Day at the shore - the beach has just opened. There were some inconsistencies across the team with where we could sit and if we could order food vs drinks in certain parts of the establishment. No worries, mon.
I'll echo the fact from another review, that the place is a little South Hamptons expensive.
2 Tacos, chips & guac, quesadilla, 3 drafts = $85.
I think they're attempting to keep those 'Haole' AU (American University) students at bay with the prices - they also don't have a happy hour to keep them college boozey beach bums from given the place character, if you know what I mean. Lastly a somewhat fair rationalization could be that it's in one of the wealthiest areas of DC, so they can keep catering to the yachties without making big waves.
Enjoyable, but bring a beach basket full of hundies $$$ to gain access to DC's NW Hampton's.
Always feel free to reach out to me on...
Read moreCool ambiance, nice crowd, good drinks. They also have a nice variety in their food and drink menu which is very nice. Everything looked beautiful but the food just didn’t taste a good as it looked. I feel like they might have used too much oil and zapped the food on a griddle on too high of heat setting. Idk what it is but the food just didn’t taste as good as it looks, and everything looked amazing. The oil they use might have also killed the taste. I ordered the lamb chops and we got potstickers for the table. Not a fan of the potstickers personally but my friend liked them. I’m a bit pickier with my potstickers though. Their quesadillas looked amazing but I didn’t get a chance to order them. I might come back to try those out. I think the food would taste better if they turned down the heat just a tiny bit to do a slower cook or used olive oil at less quantity vs whatever they are currently using. Maybe it’s just the lamb chops I ordered might have not been as good as everything else. I order lamb chops everywhere I go and I like some places more than others. It wasn’t too bad though. But I definitely will be back because everything else looked so good it deserves a try. I looked over at another table and saw the salmon dish looked pretty damn good. And their lobster dish looked amazing too. Seafood might be their strength. Great environment too. Good for dates. Can’t stress...
