We visited Soi last night. I am not sure whether Michelin reviews only the food or the service and style as well. Assuming it is a combination of all then our experience last night was definitely NOT of Michelin calibre. The service was lack lustre and understated to say the least! When we walked in there was no host or hostess to seat us. A waiter who was at the cash register was there and after waiting a few minutes to his absolute indifference to our presence when my daughter asked him he quite rudely shunned her by saying "Wait a minute" without the courtesy of even a please - a courtesy I would even teach my daughter to speak with! Then a few minutes later as he ran off he just told us his supervisor would attend to us only to return 5 minutes later and in front of us go to one of the tables, clean it with spray and cloth, stack 3 plates with paper wrapped cutlery and from a distance just pointing out the table as if to say thats where we were sitting and then running off!! We were aghast! Maybe we are spoilt by our experiences in Dubai but for a Michelin this first impression was quite perturbing! Just for the fact that we were hungry we continued to stay at the place. Then we had to wait close to 10 mins for anyone to even attend to us. We ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio and Cab Sauv .... one would expect that at a restaurant having such class presentation of wine would be as important as its taste and origin. Even if it was just a glass being ordered, I have been to lesser quality outlets that do so much more. I would have expected them to show the bottle, give us a taste and then follow with the pour versus just getting two glasses and plopping it on the table. Talk about an absence of finesse and style. Even at the end the bill was presented without a jacket and almost thrown on the table... it in fact almost fell off the table had it not been for my quick cricket hands preventing it!! So...sorry...no marks for service and style.
For the food....we ordered the Goong Pao (grilled shrimp) and the Nua Dadd Deaw (sun dried beef) as appetisers...."warm up" as it is classified. For the mains we ordered Ped Krob Kra Prow (crispy duck), Pad Thai (rice noodles with shrimp) and Gaeng Kiew Wan (chicken thigh green curry). Portions were perfect and to be honest there was nothing to fault in the flavour. The crispy duck was perfectly cooked in a sweet and sour thick sauce..I was left wanting more crisp. The only fault if any was in the green curry where the chicken pcs lacked effort ot picking good pcs. Overall though the flavours worked but the rest of it was enough of a damper where I would not be back for sometime. That we left a bit of a tip was more...
Read moreIn this fourth Resident Evil movie, opening a few weeks the events of 'Resident Evil: Extinction', the Alice clones (Milla Jovovich) attempt to kill Umbrella CEO Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) at his base in Japan. All present clones are killed when the facility is destroyed in an explosion, activated by Wesker as he escapes in an aircraft. The original Alice ambushes him, but Wesker injects her with a serum that neutralizes the T-virus in her system, eliminating her superhuman powers and making her human again. He reveals that his T-Virus powers have surpassed her own, but before he can kill her, the aircraft crashes and Alice emerges from the wreckage.
Six months later. Alice follows a repeating emergency broadcast from a survivors' safe haven known as "Arcadia" in Alaska. After many fruitless months searching for Arcadia and finding no survivors along the way, including her friends from the previous movie, Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and K-Mart (Spencer Locke), Alice begins to lose hope, believing herself to be the last surviving human on the planet. Stopping on an abandoned beach, Alice finds the helicopter taken by Claire and the others when they and Alice parted ways. A crazed Claire, under the influence of an Umbrella Corporation device attached to her chest, attacks her. Alice removes the device, finding that it has damaged Claire's memory, which she slowly regains.
Flying a two-person plane, they enter the ruins of Los Angeles and find a small group of survivors, led by Luther West (Boris Kodjoe) living in a maximum security prison, surrounded by the undead. Alice crash lands the plane on the roof of the prison and learn that Arcadia is not a fixed place but actually a cargo tanker traveling along the coast. Since the plane cannot take more than two, Alice and the survivors try to figure out a means to make it to Arcadia together. The survivors have been keeping watch on a prisoner, Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller), whom they found locked in a maximum security cell when they arrived. He says that he is a Umbrella soldier who fought the early outbreak, but was locked up by prisoners as a cruel joke when the mission failed and knows a way to reach the coast, and thereby Arcadia, but will not reveal it unless he is released.
If this movie doesn't sound like it's for you, don't worry there's, like, 7 more of them in the series to check out. And if you're still wondering about Soi 38, I’d only recommend that you go ahead and make reservations for the evenings....
Read moreTHIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. My out of town family was visiting and wanted Thai food so I made a reservation here for 6 people on a weeknight bc this place had good reviews. I got there early and scouted out the restaurant for a nice table. The restaurant was almost EMPTY with at most 5 patrons sitting near the bar. The rest of the restaurant was completely empty. There was a nice big round booth to the front right side of the restaurant near the window. This was the only unique style table in the whole restaurant. I asked to be seated there since it would be a nice family table. The hostess told me no and proceeded to explain why. She said "That table is too far away from the kitchen, it's a long walk for me, I want you to sit closer to the kitchen so I can attend to you better." I tried to reason with her as this was an absolutely ABSURD excuse but she would not comply so I asked to speak to a manager. The "manager Luke" came over and was one of the worst restaurant managers I have ever met. He did not greet me despite seeing I was an upset customer. I once again asked to be seated at that unique booth but instead he proceeded to give me the same explanation as the hostess. He offered me to sit at one of the smaller standard booths on the other side of restaurant. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. The restaurant is completely empty. You should let the customers sit where they want. Also, instead of arguing with a customer who is clearly upset, the manager should have common sense to be apologetic and try to find a solution to the problem. This manager had NO EMPATHY. He kept cutting me off in mid sentence and would not allow me to talk. It's like he was almost annoyed I was even trying to dine at his restaurant. I had a party of 6 people ready to order a lot of food but as soon as I saw the way this restaurant treats their customers, I immediately decided to go elsewhere. We left and walked 15 mins over to THAI CHEF STREET FOOD. They welcomed us and the food was delicious. In the end I was SO HAPPY I walked out of stupid Soi 38. They have TERRIBLE customer service and I will never go back there again....
