Subbs by Carl is an unassuming top-rated sandwich shop in Woodridge NE near shops like Zeke's Coffee and Momo Yakitori. Philly native, Carl, went off to Boston College and then received his MBA from Northwestern University in Illinois. Rather than head to Wall Street, he moved to the DC area to start a small sandwich shop. Whether it's his cooking skills or business degree or both, something is working. He makes a mighty fine sub. Here's what's to love:

1. Food: You cannot go wrong! Carl combines simple ingredients to craft a masterful sub. If it's your first time, I recommend the genoa salami sub. Most subs are under $7 making it one of the cheapest lunch (yep, it closes before the dinner hour) in the city. Portions are perfect to fill you up, but not overly.

2. Service: When asked if the man behind the counter was Carl, he replied, "It doesn't matter if I am the owner. What matters is that we serve you good food and great service. " Carl and his team live up to that promise. They are attentive and kind.

3. Space: It's a tiny shop that's been in the same building for 32 years and 37 on the block. There's no tables so most people grab-and-go. If you want, you can sit in the large window sill inside or along one of the neighboring buildings outside.

Wonderful subs and Mr Carl Is phenomenal very pleasant man very nice and the customer service is awesome. The subs are great but the customer service that Mr Carl provided would definitely make me want to come back. This was my first time at the sub shop thanks to my aunt and I must say I was very pleased. The subs are like no other would DEFINITELY recommend. Don’t forget cash only also and orders can be called in ahead. ONLY bad thing is they NEVER EVER answer the phone which is Terrible because a lot of people like myself don’t have time to come in and wait most of the time you want to call it in maybe he should have a person that’s just on phone orders because it’s more than enough people there I’ve seen at least 5 so someone should be able to pick the phone up. A lot of times if an establishment don’t answer the phone I wouldn’t go there because you didn’t answer so how do I know you are open. A lot of times Carl’s subs put it on oh they were busy but come on now you are loosing out on money seriously by not answering the phone.
