I recently ordered through Postmates from this location for delivery. I got the spring rolls, mango sticky rice, and curry puffs.
The spring rolls were really good, they had I think glass noodles along with the veggies inside. They are quite small so they give you 4 of them.
The curry puffs are an item I have gotten from multiple restaurants and theirs were on the small size but they give you 3 instead of the usual 2. They were a bunch more spicy compared to others and it was too spicy for my liking. This is the only time I haven't finished an order of curry puffs due to taste. The cucumber-vinegar sauce also wasn't very good. It wasn't vinegary enough, basically tasted watered down and this is a crucial part of the dish, so I was a bit disappointed.
The mango stick rice was incredibly good! The mango was perfectly fresh and ripe! They give you a decent portion of sticky rice with coconut and such on top. If for no other reason I'll be ordering from them again just to get more of this and to try other dishes!
A suggestion: one thing that would improve my experience and enjoyment is if the store had a sweet plum type sauce that wasn't spicy that was made in the restaurant with good natural ingredients. Many of the prepackaged sauces have ingredients I'm unable to eat due to food allergies. I would pay more, and order more often if I really liked the sauce. One example in the market is Chipotle makes their Polynesian sauce that I buy in the large bottles because it's the only sweet and sour type sauce I can eat and use it for all stores nuggets because they make it themselves without all the artificial ingredients. I also order coconut shrimp from red lobster as opposed to other places because I love their pina colada sauce.... just a thought. There are a lot of us who can't eat the artificial stuff. Msg is another one that commonly is a problem for those with migraine and it would be great if you had a good alternative. I think restaurants underestimate the value of a good sauce...
Read moreI originally had high hope for this establishment since I heard such great things however I can not tell a lie. This was not it for me. The portions are great but the flavor leaves a lot to be desired. The fried calamari was horrid. Literally threw it in the trash. The Thia Orchid fried rice special was so so… it’s day three of ordering it and it’s still in the fridge (getting tossed today). Also ordered the chicken Pad see-eww the dog seems to enjoy it so, but the noodles tasted burnt to me and the flavor was very lacking. Perhaps this was just an off day for the cook(s), but for $70 due to ordering via Grub Hub I could have simply driven myself to Virginia to Galae Thia for a fraction of the price and better taste.. maybe in the warmer months I will try again just to see if it was what I ordered and maybe because it was through Grub Hun. I find sometimes that food at the restaurant is better than when delivered so to be...
Read moreI can get behind a restaurant that has good reviews and is across the river. That's why my wife surprised me by taking me here on a date night. We are huge fans of Thai food and have exhausted the good Thai options in DC. This place has great ratings so we had to try it out.
I wish I could give this place a 5 star rating, but I promised to always be honest. There is more than enough seating here, but the atmosphere does NOT encourage you to stay. Since it was empty when we went, I assume no one stays to use the tables. When my wife and I walked it, it was not clear how to order. After waiting for a few minutes, the owner came out and was then SUPER helpful. He is really nice!
The food was normal Thai food. Nothing to write home about. I always get green curry and I think the best I've had in DC is Regent Thai in NW or Sanphan Thai on Pennsylvania Ave in...
