Absolutely stunned by this place. I have never been treated with such disrespect. The woman at the register was extremely rude towards the three of us. The chef was rude as well. I ordered a hot cocoa and it was all foam! I went to the register and explained to her that my hot cocoa was all foam. Immediately she got defensive and the chef stepped in and was rude. I was ganged up on by 2 employees for asking a questions about their hot cocoa. The chef said make a new one for her and then the woman at the register said no and completely ignored me. I walked away pissed. I sat down and a few minutes later there was a new hot cocoa. I refused it, because I will not accept anything from a place that is so rude. I highly recommend anyone to NOT go here. Yes the owner tried to make it better, but she did not have her employees apologize. As a visitor of this area, this is the worst customer service experience I have ever had. I will be happily reporting this to Zagat, Google and all other...

Union Kitchen Grocery on 9th Street NW is one of those local gems that feels like a cool, elevated corner store meets neighborhood café. It’s a short walk from the Convention Center, and a great stop whether you’re looking for a quick bite or some unique finds.

The market itself has a laid-back, welcoming vibe, with shelves stocked with a curated mix of everyday essentials and small-batch, locally made snacks and goodies, which are perfect for discovering something new or picking up a DC-made treat.

What makes it even better? There’s a cozy little indoor dining area and picnic-style seating outside, ideal for lingering over a coffee, breakfast sandwich, or a quick lunch. Their made-to-order sandwiches are solid picks—fresh, flavorful, and perfect for fueling up on the go.

Whether you’re exploring the neighborhood or just need a low-key spot to recharge, Union Kitchen Grocery hits that sweet spot between...

Really nice small, local grocery. They are like a local whole foods or foxtrot competitor but on a smaller level. They offer alot of trendy food items like high hydrogen water, lavendar popcorn (which was good), and much more. They also have a coffee bar and fresh food bar. I bought the chickpea chorizo which was super delicious but so small for the price. I wish they gave like a couple pieces of bread or toast or something. The bowl came with potato chunks, chickpea chorizo pieces (so flavorful), corn, the world's smallest egg, and arugula, and spices. So so good. Service was excellent too. And they gave dining space inside and out as well as plugs and wifi. Highly...

Came here several times during our 4 day visit to DC after finding it the first da. We really needed something quick and yet healthy. Good sandwiches but mostly with egg even if vegetarian. There was a vegan bowl, or they let you alter items. Tons of interesting fresh and canned beverages including an impressive local craft beer selection. You could even make a charcuterie platter from their case selection. Love the idea of this place being a kitchen for local chefs and entrepreneurs to create and bring their products to fruition.
