Vace's pizzas and other offerings are consistently excellent however their ordering/carry-out service is not. The staff use an informal system to write down orders on large pieces of paper and verbally communicate with the kitchen. There is no electronic ordering system. In my experience, they routinely mix up or lose orders and give entirely inaccurate estimates for wait times. Twice in two weeks, I arrived at the time they had told me my pies would be ready and was told I needed to wait an additional 15 to 30 minutes. In both instances, I had calibrated the order so that I could collect the pizzas en route to collecting my child from preschool. In the first instance I cancelled the order and left. The second time I ordered 1.5 hours ahead of time, arrived on time, was asked to pay and was informed 5min later that my pies had not been put in the oven and I needed to wait due to an ordering mixup. I then had to rush to collect my son and return to collect my order during Friday rush hour, which was extremely stressful. On both occasions the staff made no effort to compensate me for my inconvenience and their errors. I've seen no improvement in their systems, or service consistency in the 10 years I've patronized the business. The pies are sufficiently good that I will grudgingly continue to buy from them, but the service is infuriating and so easy to fix. I'll happily come back and amend this review if improvements...
Read moreThe pizza is good, not great. I like that's it's thin and the sauce on top is a nice change of pace — definitely the best pie to be had in the neighborhood, at least if you don't feel like driving up Macomb to Two Amy's.
They also have a nice array of frozen meals and various Italian goods like cookies, sauces, wine, etc. The sandwiches are not great — not nearly enough meat on them, and often they try and foist a pre-made sandwich on you instead of a fresh one.
That gets to my biggest beef with this place: the employees.
I wouldn't go so far as to say the two ladies that most often run the register are outright rude, but they are indifferent at best and contemptuous at worst. One is often made to feel that you are imposing on their idleness by asking them to move a few feet down the counter to get a slice. And like I said, making a fresh sandwich is apparently an undertaking, with the request met with a sigh and a slow shuffle down to the deli counter.
In fact, the first and only time I've ever seen the larger of the two ladies smile at me was the last time my wife and I went around 5 p.m. and asked if they could make a couple sandwiches for us. "Sorry," she said. "We're already out of bread."
At a restaurant? On a Friday evening? At least the fact that she didn't have to do any work prompted...
Read moreLet me just start out this review by saying that I'm not a big pizza fan. Maybe I just ate too much of it in college or maybe its just a weaker option than getting a great sandwich or burger as a lunch option on the cheap. Just my opinion. However to my surprise and suggestions by friends/family, Vace has amazing pizza. This is your typical thin crust basic pizza and it is a fantastic deal at abotu $10. Of course you can add a ton of different toppings which I suggest trying the sausage or pepperoni. I did try the tomato/basil/mozzarella which was a nice change and very tasty. A great place to grab a large pizza on a Friday night.
FYI, definitely worth calling ahead since it might take up to 30 mins.
Also a great place to get some of their premade pasta. I've tried the raviolis and meat sauce which were fantastic and a...
