I left a review 6 years ago, 2018ish, (below) and had a great number of delicious meals there before the pandemic. We r not big take-out diners and were so sad the until just this last week that was all Wasu did. Today we stopped by for a late lunch. They have a brand new menu. I posted photos of all the pages and the two lunch boxes that we thoroughly enjoyed. We started with a really tasty Miso soup and it was a full nice big bowl. The teriyaki salmon was as I remembered, as was my husband’s Korean BBQ port. All yum . We will become regulars again and bring lots of visitors - it was a favorite of our-of-town sons and they will be delighted too that it is open for in restaurant dinind. .....from 6 years ago: Boy am I delighted Wasu opened in Watchung. Parking is easy. The dining area pleasant and the low volume, calm music set the mood. The staff (owners) are lovely - we ordered 3 meals. We were served a complementary salad and appetizer to share. The food was very tasty, and we finished almost all of it, except they gave me such a large portion of salmon I was able to take 2 small fillets home to top my salad with the next day. No question we will return many times (we were disappointed that Wasu is closed Sunday since I want to "show off the great Japanese food so close by" to my kids who live in NYC who were visiting.

UPDATE as of December 2023. Really important thing to know is that this restaurant is now only takeout. Online says it’s open for dine in but it’s not. Great food. Service is pretty good - not many people seemed to work there but it’s a small place and I tend to go pretty early for lunch. Note that they don’t open until 1:30PM on Saturdays! I actually really like their sushi. We’ve tried a couple different rolls and none have disappointed us yet. Think my favorite might be the Halfway roll: shrimp tempura on the inside and on the outside is spicy crab with their spicy eel sauce on top. Their pork ramen and udon is decent. Pork had a little too much fat but the ramen in general was tasty. The BBQ Pork on the other hand was DELICIOUS. So good and worth a try!

Washu is a great sushi restaurant in Watchung, NJ. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is excellent. I highly recommend the omakase, which is a tasting menu of chef's choice sushi. The restaurant has a modern and upscale atmosphere, with a focus on fresh seafood. The menu features a variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and other Japanese dishes. Their side salad comes with ginger dressing which is the best. I've been to Washu several times, and I've always had a great experience. The food is always delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is inviting. I highly recommend Washu to anyone looking for a great sushi experience in Watchung, NJ. Btw they only do take outs.

I’ve ordered from this restaurant several times, including once on October 15th at 12:30 PM, when my food was delivered to my job. The person who delivered it even said they’d always be willing to deliver to me. Because of that, I decided to order again — but when I called this time, I was told that they’ve never delivered before, which is completely untrue.

When I went to pick up my food, the woman at the counter was rude and dismissive. She gave me the wrong order and claimed she had told me my food wasn’t ready, which she hadn’t. After I paid, she placed the bag in front of me without a word.

This kind of inconsistency and lack of professionalism is disappointing, especially from a local restaurant I’ve supported multiple times. I won’t be ordering from them again. The chicken, vegetable tempura was horrible. The only thing that tasted god was their red sauce. I don't recommend this...

I recently dined at Wasu Sushi in Watchung, NJ, and was thoroughly impressed by both the exceptional service and the outstanding quality of the food.

From the moment I entered, the staff’s warm hospitality made me feel welcome. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor enhanced the dining experience, ensuring that every need was promptly addressed.

The salmon avocado roll and spicy tuna roll were outstanding, showcasing fresh, high-quality ingredients. The flavors were well-balanced, and the presentation was artful, reflecting the chefs’ dedication to their craft.

The chicken fried rice was equally impressive, with tender pieces of chicken and perfectly seasoned rice, making it a delightful complement to the sushi.

To top off the meal, I enjoyed a bubble tea that was simply delightful, providing a sweet and refreshing conclusion to an already exceptional...
