First I’d like to say, it’s been several years since I’ve visited this establishment. I was a regular customer when they had the truck. I moved further away once they opened up a takeout restaurant which caused a lengthy absence. I visited the store on route 22 and was happy to see they remembered my name. I ordered three dinners, two banana puddings, one bean pie, honey bbq wings, and two oxtail empanadas. Total bill, $101.83.
Meal one: (was for the wife but I tasted it at her request. She didn’t like it but my son loved it. We all have different taste buds so you be the judge) turkey meatloaf with yellow rice and macaroni and cheese… the meatloaf didn’t taste the way I remembered from the truck days. Rice is rice but that macaroni and cheese was good and cheesy.
Meal two: (my meal exclusively) bbq chicken with yams and macaroni and cheese. I’ve always been a fan of their bbq chicken because it’s different and delicious. The bbq sauce has to be homemade because I’ve never tasted bbq sauce like it anywhere else. The yams are delicious and sweet as any other candied yam but there’s a hidden ingredient that kicks it up for me. I love the macaroni and cheese also.
Meal three: (wife decided this was the perfect meal for her and I also tasted the fish per her request) fried catfish with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. The catfish was perfectly seasoned and delicious. You could tell right away that someone is actually putting in some work combining the seasoning for the fish. It was very well seasoned. Not too salty and was very flavorful. The collard greens were nice and drained unlike other places that load up the tray with collard juice. You already know how I feel about the macaroni and cheese.
Oxtail empanadas: ordered two but could only eat one. Way too much salt. Oxtails have such little meat that people constantly over season them. Hopefully they will read this review and start measuring or only using one seasoning containing sodium.
Honey bbq wingettes: only one word could describe this dish… delicious. Again, the sauce tasted homemade. My son and I both loved the wings.
Banana pudding has always been my favorite thing and they make it well.
I tried the bean pie for the first time. Impressive. It’s made in house and tasted delicious. It’s more moist and flavorful than the ones they sell at your neighborhood Kennedy, Crowns, or NY fried chicken spots.
Keep up the good work and bring back free cornbread with the meal. Maybe even reward your customer with a free drink for purchases over $60. I spent over $100 and left thirsty. I’ll definitely be...
Read moreI last tried Amazing Taste a couple of years ago and returned today to give it another try. Unfortunately, it was no better. Upon entering, I wasn't sure if it was under new management. The staff member who took my order seemingly spoke little English. That wasn't the experience I expected from a soul food spot. As I watched the preparation of my dish, I was astonished. My mouthwatering craving for juicy baked chicken, stewed string beans and mac and cheese quickly dried up like a desert. I was sorry I had entered, sorry I had paid $20 for what I saw taking place. Three pale pieces of chicken from a box were tossed into the microwave along with sides in a takeout container. Noooo. If I wanted a microwave dinner I could have saved half that amount and picked up a frozen dinner from the supermarket. I don't use a microwave at home, so I certainly don't want that from a restaurant that states their food is amazing. Then when it came out, those pieces were exchanged for three other pieces (not sure why) and everything was again microwaved. The chicken lacked flavor and was beginning to harden at the edges. There was little to no gravy or juices present. The string beans were overcooked and beginning to break down. They too, had no flavor. The mac and cheese was underwhelming and didn't have a harmonious flavor. I threw it all out after a few bites. Oh, and years ago cornbread was included. No more. That's fine because it tasted like a thin piece of bland cake that fell apart trying to eat. I've spent a few hundred dollars there on maybe now my fourth...
Read moreThis review is so so long overdue but in this moment I find myself trying to make space in my schedule to make a trip to my favorite place so I figured they deserve some recognition.
My boyfriend and I have been coming to amazing taste since they opened up their storefront in North Plainfield and now we visit both stores frequently.
One day we searched for the nearest soul food restaurant, Amazing taste came up and we went for the drive. We arrived and were greeted instantly and our orders were taken right away. WE WERE NOT PREPARED FOR WHAT WE WERE ABOUT TO EXPERIENCE!! We fell in love with Amazing Taste!! The food is incredible. You can just tell each and every thing is prepared with love. This family run store truly lives up to their name. We go there so often we’ve become familiar with the staff in both stores and they are always respectful, prompt, efficient and friendly. Especially the owner and his wife, and their son who is now running the north Plainfield store. So that’s, great food, clean restaurants, friendly service AND two locations. What more can you truly ask for in a restaurant? I’ve even ordered catering for my most recent birthday party just to let my friends know about our favorite place and everyone loved it.
Thank you to the Amazing Taste family for incredible food and customer service every time.
One last thing..........you may be thinking to yourself... I’ve already ordered so much food... Do I really need that side of potato salad AND the banana pudding for dessert?? The answer is yes. Always yes. You will not be...
