Golden Buffet — Restaurant in Waterford Township

We have been going to Golden for the past 5 years, owner upgraded the Dixy Hwy location and has boosted the food quality dramatically and consistantly. We are there once a week or so. The Sushi is wonderful, hand made onsite, usually about 8 choices. Their hot & sour soup is beyond amazing, with multiple mushroon, huge tofu chunks. They always have multiple fish options and dishes for picky young kids. Sometimes tacos, pizza, Mac & cheese. There are also steamed veggies and unbreaded dishes that my wife & I prefer. The cold food bar is an excellent salad bar on its own. The Hot food bar is more than you could ever want and almost every dish is top notch. While the fancy Sushi at the much more expensive Tokyo in Sfld. is one step up, Golden's hot food is CONSISTANTLY A STEP ABOVE Toyko! The Mongolian grill is almost over the top with so many other choices. Then for dessert, expected choices, and soft serve ice cream and toppings, plus spectacular cut up fresh fruit, some skewered, and a CHOCOLATE fountain, with even more goodies to dip or coat. Hot tea is also included and the wait staff is very attentive even though it's buffett format. We have held family gatherings in their large (no extra charge) private room and we would go there again, and we do. Sorry, forgot to mention, the price is possibly the best value in Oakland County in any category. Our lunch bill is about $8 per person (lower with coupon on their web site) and the only gotcha, is that we have to control ourselves not to eat to much. I give it 3 stars and here’s why. I opted to try out the golden buffet because I’ve seen driving around before, and decided I would go with a couple friends, the selection is actually really good and the food is decent for the price, the sushi is good and well worth but shortly things got bizzare. I had a faint pungent smell in my nose and shortly realized the booth chair smelt like pee horrendously, as I could smell it on my hands, and I don’t know the situation but I understand random things happen and all so I walk over to wash my hands and I decide I’m going to use the restroom. I sit down and do my business then I’m greeted by a employee with toilet paper in his hand peaking his eye through the 3 inch large gap in the stall door staring me down. while I was in the moment of using the bathroom in that very second. He stares at me for about 12 seconds through the gap and I tell him “give it to me under the door and I can put it back” he proceeds to not say a word and keep it from me. Then I yell over to him “put it under the door and I will grab some and give it Back to you!” And he tells me “no it’s a big one”. So I pull up my pants and walk out into the bathroom while he replaces the empty toilet paper roll. He then runs out after replacing it and I sit down and go to grab some paper and the whole entire roll falls out onto the pee covered ground. I luckily grabbed enough while it was in the process of falling out unexpectedly that I could clean up. I felt like I needed a shower after eating here... good selection of desserts though, eat and leave don’t use...

Place has gone Way downhill and I'm very disappointed! I discovered this restaurant back in the 2000s and I was surprised at the variety of food items, quality of preparation and the price. The last time I visited prior to yesterday was in 2017 and I could see that things had gone down somewhat but it was still a viable dining option. When I stopped in yesterday I wasn't surprised that there were no longer crab legs there, most places have eliminated those due to high prices but other things were also missing like bell peppers and bean sprouts at the Mongolian grill. The chocolate waterfall is gone and there was no longer a variety of foods like meatballs and barbecue ribs to choose from if you didn't want the Asian dishes, only Pizza. My server never came to refill our drinks, only to clear away dishes once and then bring a bill when I was preparing to leave. Now, let's talk about the bathroom... On second thought, I'd rather not. The toilet in the men's room was covered in feces and was utterly disgusting. I only saw it because the stall door was open and I meant to take a picture to post but I must have forgotten in my rush to wash my hands and get out. No paper towel in dispenser either. I can understand a one-time issue because sometimes people get sick and a bathroom gets trashed but I'm looking back at reviews going back 6 and 7 years where they still mention the bathrooms being filthy and disgusting. Totally unacceptable! I definitely should have gone more often years ago when this place was outstanding. Now, I won't be back and won't recommend this...
