Tai Fai — Restaurant in Waterford Township

Y’all. The Chicken Schezwan here is incredible. Like walk thirty minutes round trip on foot in a snow storm incredible. (This was me last night. The pictured food was the reward and oh boy was it worth it). The best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had the dish many places. I used to drive to China Chef in Troy, but this is better. Flavors are unreal, everything is so fresh. Fresh tender chicken, fresh vegetables that still have a nice crunch. It’s a small detail but I love how they cut the peppers for the dish. I’ve had it twice now and it was just as incredible both times. Additionally, the fried rice is excellent. Fresh, veggies in it. The egg rolls are also the tastiest I’ve ever had, and they have a great plum sauce. So glad I finally gave Tai Fai a chance, and I hope they stick around. This is a 100% honest review. This was by far the WORST sushi I’ve ever tried. I love sushi, and my boyfriend and I wanted to try this place out after reading reviews of people saying they love the sushi from here. We ordered about 4 rolls. The flavor was incredibly bland or bad. Even the simple shrimp tempura roll was bad. The pieces fell apart as soon as I tried to pick them up. My boyfriend and I each tried one piece from each roll, and that’s all we could stand to eat. My stomach started to hurt after we ate there. If you are looking for good sushi, I do not recommend this place. There are definitely way better sushi places around. Tokyo Sushi in Auburn hills, and Take Sushi in Rochester Hills are both amazing sushi places with fair prices. Sushi Kafe in Rochester is also very good just a little more pricey. Atmosphere at Waterford location is cool. However NOT cleanily they often have a younger group of girls working here and let me just say- after the last takeout here I will neeeeever come back! The OAK PARK LOCATION IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! Not sure exactly how they roll their rolls but lord, the amount of fuzzies I found all over both my rolls was not even believable, ironically one of the rolls was not actually made correctly so I called and let them know, they told me to come back so I did, thinking okay this one will be made correctly + surely won’t have fuzzies all over it.
