A recent addition to Watertown, this establishment has quickly become a popular spot among locals seeking Indian cuisine. With limited tables in a small dining area, the wait to be seated has been quite long during peak dining hours. Not to mention, the food also took a little bit longer than usual with the continuous take out and delivery orders streaming out the door. All of these were expected of a place that has gained popularity so quickly. So what is it about them that stood out? Was it the clean and well designed interior? Was it their friendly family-style mannerisms when serving customers? Or was it their take on their regional cuisine and the quality of their food? Honestly, it’s been a while I’ve said this about a small family run restaurant: “all of the above!” If anything they served were reheats, they did it perfectly. If they were made same day and kept on hot-hold, they also did it perfectly. Nothing served that evening “sat”. Nothing was overdone by the time it arrived at the table. Everything tasted fresh. Everything tasted good. On top of that, they served the best Saag I’ve tasted in a decade. It was so good that I still think about it a few days later. Just can’t wait to be back again. Definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area and craving Indian Cuisine.

After having many transformative food experiences during my recent trip to South India, I was very excited to see many familiar items on the Chennai Eats menu. It was difficult to decide on just a couple of things to try -- so many delicious-sounding things! We got the Chettinadu chicken biryani, and it was delicious! Intensely spiced and flavored -- probably one of my favorite biryani ever. It's also huge and filling. We also got the Andhra chili chicken. We were expecting a green chili paste sauce, but they explained that they don't do that style since it's too spicy. This was barely spicy (apparently we got it medium spicy which is the default), and didn't taste like what we expected, but it was still really good! The boneless chicken is tender and the sauce is quite tasty. The parotta was nice and layered and went great with the chicken curry. I also liked the rasmalai. I thought the solid pieces were a bit dense, but the sweet milky liquid was delicious. There are many things I want to try from the menu -- ghee roast and fish curry, to name a few -- so I'll definitely be back! It was pretty packed on a Saturday around 1:30pm, but we were able to get the one empty table.

Finally, Indian food in Watertown! We went for lunch during the second day of their soft opening, and the food did not disappoint! We got brunch type foods: a combo of idli sambar and vada sambhar, masala dhosa, chana masala, mango lassi, and Madras coffee, and it was all delicious. The mango lassi was just the right amount of tart, the food was not overly salty, and they ask you for your preferred spice level. They were also able to accommodate a request for no cilantro. Rasmalai for dessert. I can't wait to try them for dinner! Would 100% recommend. An accessibility note for dining in - the bathroom is currently not handicap accessible, which is due to the space constraints of the building through every iteration of restaurant in this space, so just something to keep in mind if you need to. They give out water bottles with your meal, but I'm hoping they will offer tap water soon as well.

We went to Chennai Eats Restaurant as a family on Friday and we loved the authentic South Indian food varieties they had to offer us. We were treated with immense hospitality by Gopal and our kids loved him very much. We had Chicken 65, Fish Fry and Shrimp Pepper Fry for Starters. The dishes were competing with each other for excellence in taste. We loved the Fish Fry which was so soft and tender and full of juices and spices. The Shrimp Pepper Fry was on a different level – vera level! The taste was simply superb with the black pepper lavishly put. It was mild and not too hot even with so much black pepper which made the dish enjoyable!! Then we had Chikoo milk shake for a drink which was simply superb!! We were served by friendly server Anisha and Aishwarya who were catering to our every need all time during the dinner course. Chef Vicky is one of our favorites because of whom we visit Chennai Eats often to enjoy his exclusive dishes especially on Friday when he has a special menu. Then for the main entrée we ordered Thalapakatti Goat Biriyani which is the signature dish of Chennai Eats. We also had Ghee Roast which was amazingly delicious!! A Must try!! The chutney and sambar were excellent in taste. Thinking of the Restaurant’s dishes my kids want to go there today also. Owner Sridhar is an all-time Super Chef from Chennai who makes the place simply unique! Quite an Organizer!! We had the feeling of having visited a hotel in Chennai with good food to finish our dinner and came back home like we visited a temple!! Such an authentic place with such good ambience and wonderful people to enjoy the food!! Chennai Eats is one of our favorite places to visit!! Soon enough we are going to go to that place to enjoy the delicious food...

TL;DR – The flavors were underwhelming, the portion sizes felt small compared to the standard at most South Asian restaurants, and the level of spiciness was overwhelming in a way that didn't complement the dishes. Overall, it didn’t feel like good value for the price, and I don’t plan to return.

I was quite surprised to see this place rated so highly (4.8 stars), as my partner and I were disappointed with our recent takeout experience.

We ordered the mango lassi, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and naan. Unfortunately, the mango lassi was very watery and unexpectedly sour — it tasted like it may have been made with unripe mango, and we ended up adding sugar at home to make it more palatable.

The chicken vindaloo was certainly spicy, which we asked for, but the heat wasn’t balanced or flavorful. It seemed like a heavy dose of black pepper was added, resulting in a harsh burn in the throat rather than a well-rounded heat that enhances the dish.

As for the chicken tikka masala, the flavors were mild and not particularly memorable. Portion sizes for all dishes were noticeably small. In my experience, South Asian restaurants often serve meals that are generous enough to share among three or more people, but these felt more like individual serving with a 1/2 serving for leftovers.

Overall, the meal didn’t meet expectations, especially considering the price. While I respect others may have had a better experience, this one unfortunately missed the...
