This was my first time ever eating at this restaurant so I wanted to try a couple sides before fully committing to the 30+ dollar dinner. I called in my order over the phone and arrived about 30 minutes later. I ordered the cabbage with veggies side and the corn on the cob. After I arrived, I had to wait additional 25 minutes for the two sides I had ordered. While waiting, I watched the lady behind the counter, fully and quite beautifully explain to each customer who had ordered a full dinner, in complete detail down to the sauce she gave the option to either put on your food or take it in a little side to go cup. When it was finally my turn, I immediately felt the energy shift. She snidely chuckled to herself that I’d only ordered two sides. It was as if she felt the way that I did not purchase a full dinner as if I wasted her time. After she put the special sauce on my corn, I asked if I could purchase an additional sauce which was two dollars extra on the menu. She said she didn’t even feel like bothering to ring me up for just the additional $2 that she would rather just give it to me, reluctantly. I feel that if you run an establishment, you should treat a person ordering something small, the exact, same way you would treat someone ordering the full menu! Had I’d like the food and service, I would’ve definitely ordered a full meal on my next visit. I’m not a wasteful person and I don’t like splurging on something a bit pricey that I’ve never tried before out of fear I won’t like it and have to throw perfectly good food away! Plus it was a bit salty for my taste! She felt a way about me just ordering sides and the vibe was palpable with two sides cost me $13 plus the dollar tip she obviously didn’t care about! Regardless of whether or not she thought it was enough, I was paying customer just like the others! I guess my $14.51 wasn’t enough! I was just trying to support black business. I guess everyone doesn’t deserve your support especially if it’s not appreciated!...
Read moreIt started out ok with Millie who was an expert front of the house staff member, she offered several tastings since this was my first visit, the owner aka chef told her impatiently that he had other orders in a voice audible enough for us top heat it, add more orders came in he cussed openly, I still wanted to seewhat i was going to order. When I finally gave my order hesitantly as we waited for our order, we witnessed the cook assistant slide a container of sauce across the counter which fell on the floor, she told wanted Millie to serve it to the customer, Millie refused and went in the back to make the customer a fresh container. Because of what I witnessed from Millie I gave an order of steak which came to me after a unusual time of waiting (not long at all for fresh grilled steak) the steak came to me dry and a bit tough. I am a certified chef, I know steak is not supposed to be this way. I showed a guy that showed up, he gave us the wrong order first, then I asked him for something else, he told me that he didn't have the power to do anything about it. I hesitated, I felt very uncomfortable so we're just left after he slowly mentioned that the owner could speak to me, but he was away a table with a non customer talking to him. I did not feel free or comfortable to discuss the matter any further. I spent almost $40 I am not so sure that I will be back. I was determined to come over to this community to buy black. Some businesses do not deserve special attention. Disgusted. Maybe I will give it some time to grow in professionalism and great customer service. I don't know anyone here so I have nothing to gain or lose. Truth wins...
Read moreI visited this restaurant several weeks ago with a friend for lunch. I was indecisive and asked the person taking our order a lot of questions. While trying to decide what I wanted to order she brought out some wings and they were fall of the bone tender and absolutely delicious. I am not a bone-in wing person but these were so good I have been converted. My friend and I both ordered the jerk wing dinner but before I ordered mine I asked about the rice as I tried to decide which side items to get. The person taking our order brought out a sample and it was sooooo good. There was a sauce over the rice that was literally finger licking good, so much so that I asked if they sell the sauce( which they do). So I got the rice as one of my sides and it came with a medley of mixed vegetables. Everything was flavorful and seasoned really well. The food was just so good I wanted to savor every bite. The portion size was good and I had leftovers for later and it tasted just as good later. My friend who ordered the same thing enjoyed her food as well. The restaurant is modest and small not fussy or prententious, comfortable with very simple decor. The person taking our order was very helpful and we definitely appreciated the opportunity to sample some items. That was definitely a perk! I will definitely go back. I want to try the jerk shrimp. I have never had oxtails but would be willing to try them at this restaurant since everything I had...
