Ok I’m going to be brutally honest. I was ready to HATE on this food and be the biggest Karen. My husband and I decided to try something new tonight. There aren’t that many reviews for this place but he loves bbq so I said ok. I fully admit I was anticipating getting cold and dry meat. So I called the restaurant and asked what is their juiciest most tender meat tonight and the lady on the other line seemed bothered by my question. At first she said I don’t know but then said their burgers are juicy and their bbq chicken and probably their brisket. So I went with the brisket with plum whiskey sauce, cherry cobbler, mashed potatos with Texas gravy, Mac and cheese, and corn bread.
Over an hour later we still didn’t get our food delivered. We live about 7 min away. At this point I’m hangry and I just knoooowwww my meats are going to be dry and cold.
The delivery lady calls and says I am at 909 with a red truck in the driveway. I said no you aren’t we don’t have a red truck and you aren’t here. She insists there was another 909. There isn’t. So you better believe when she finally gets here I tear into the bag ready to get to the cold food and ready to call to complain.
Let’s start with the brisket. It was not cold. My first bite I was met with warm tender and juicy .. but even better…. The sauce it was with.. the flavor…it was outstanding. The depth of flavor went perfectly with the meat. I opened the Mac and cheese expecting a velveeta consistency. But this was far from it. The taste was real. Not processed. Not cold. The lid to the mashed potatos comes off next and my eyes dart around for the gravy….the gravy…where is the gravy? If you can’t tell by now I don’t like dry food so where is the gravy? It’s missing. All I received was stark white creamy spuds. No chunks. But I’m not mad. Because I toss the potatos in my bowl with the brisket and whatever that sauce was that was with it. Was THAT the gravy? I don’t know what whisky plum is supposed to taste like so it could be gravy or it could be the brisket sauce. Either way something was missing and either way the marriage of those flavors was a beautiful heavenly thing. I danced. I couldn’t even be mad that my gravy wasn’t provided. Ok cherry cobbler you are next. My first bite is soft warm and buttery with the sweetness of cherries. My eyes lit up and I asked for forgiveness. This restaurant quickly changed my mood and my assumptions. Did my husband have the same experience? Mehhh.. his brisket sandwich was good but not great. Would I get this food again? Heck yes. Do I think they have the best service? I don’t know. I didn’t dine in. But the delivery took too long. Even with that being said the food quality held up and tasted great. I...
Read moreTo start this is coming from a pit master and native of Eastern NC, so I am definitely more critical than most but we will be coming back to get more because it is a great reminder of back home. First found out about this olace when one of the owners came to get some charcoal from the place where I work in the evening and had a great conversation about BBW and smoking meats with them; and whenever someone tells me they have a North Carolina BBQ sauce I have to try it. The atmosphere here reminded me of some of the BBQ joints back home in Eastern North Carolina, you can see the 'pit' when ordering and the service is top notch. The small dining area and all reminded me of back home. My son got the smoked Italian beef sandwich and it was the perfect size with the small and had great taste, was the perfect portion and he was more than satisfied. My wife and daughter both got burgers and loved them, from what I tried of the burgers the Plum Whiskey sauce would go amazing on them. I got the three meat combo with pulled pork (Eastern NC tradition), chicken and orange turkey. Pulled pork was the best I have had outside of the south and may even rival some of the ones I have from home. While the NC sauce is not the style I personally like it did work great with the pork and reminded me of a mixture between a Western NC and Lexington style sauce. The chicken was perfectly cooked and went great with the South Carolina Mustard sauce. The turkey was perfect and reminded me of thanksgiving meals back home, put it with some mashed potatoes and stuffing and you have a great meal. The sides were amazing. The coleslaw is the closest I have had outside of North Carolina to the one I grew up enjoying and would be great on a sandwich with the pulled pork, the brisket baked beans were amazing and the peach baked beans is a recipe I will definitely try to recreate over my own pit in the future. If you are considering trying out this place, just go it is the best BBQ that I have tried in Illinois since we have moved up here. The owners and staff are amazing and super friendly, it felt like I was back home for the time my family and I were in the restaurant. The prices are reasonably set for the area and it is very easy to get in and out of the parking lot. Overall it is a 5/5, service and atmosphere are amazing and the food is a 4/5 when compared to BBQ from back home but it a 10/5 when comparing to any other BBQ joint in northeastern Illinois. Already planning on bringing the family here when they come up...
Read moreI have never made a review on a location before, but i felt the need to make one about this location. Now dine in may change quality but their delivery leaves something to be desired. My order tonight was dissapointing to say the least. 25 dollar delivery minimum and a 5 dollar surcharge on top of that was pricy to say the least but in my mind i was like great ill have dinner for two nights. Upon building my order i realized that i had a reduced delivery for being a first time orderer. So i had to add more to my purchase because of the discount. But i had believed the reviews. My order was the 3 meat platter ribs white meat chicken and a bratwurst. with smoked mac and cheese and an extra corn on the cob, i ordered and extra mac and a cheescake. For dessert Once i got my order everything looked good and i went to eat the chicken first. It was bout as dry and over cooked as you could get. The ribs were also over cooked as they were also dry. The brat was ok at best. The mac and cheese for being as expensive as it is. Is one not worth the 6 dollars extra for the purchase and two not worth the extra surcharge as an upgrade. It was rubbery and over smoked as thats all i could taste. The cheescake i dont know if its made in house or not was also dry and crumbling as i was eating it. All in all not something i would have payed this type of money for even with the discount. Very...
