Whisk Bakery & Coffee — Restaurant in Wauconda

It was a very cold December morning, my eyes barely able to crack open as the sun peaked through the windows. I knew I needed coffee or the day was not going to happen.

A short hop down main street stood the incredible bakery and coffee palace know locally as Whisk.

I stumbled my way through the door, dreary eyed with lackluster enthusiasm to be awake. The staff belted out a wonderful GOOD MORNING but quickly saw for me, that it was not

"This man needs coffee, HURRY!" The staff frantically scrambled to aid me in my decrepit state. "Crackaccino should do it!" -- a diagnosis which I thought would be the last thing I ever heard, before falling asleep again.

I received my delicious caffeine packed beverage with a smile and kind nod. I knew I'd survive. To make sure I was ready for any further issues, I also took an emergency Apple Doodle pastry. Amazingly flavorful cinnamon apple filling in a perfectly baked pastry dough.

I knew I would be okay. This place somehow promises, without words, 2021 will be better -- and their coffee is...

Whisk bakery is absolutely charming and beautiful the moment you walk in. I came here for a birthday cake after seeing some neighbors raving about it. I ordered my cake and took a cannoli and cookies to go. THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! A week later, I went back to get the cake which was better than I could have dreamed up. It was decorated perfectly. I also took a cinnamon roll and more cookies, different flavors than the first time. The cinnamon roll was warm and soft, and absolutely melt in your mouth good. The cookies were PERFECTLY baked. The birthday cake was for my moms 75th birthday and everyone could not stop talking about how delicious it was. There are not words to describe how delicious this cake really was. Not only was it perfectly decorated, it tasted amazing. You can tell that Whisk loves what they are doing, and they show it in every baked good that they create. Im a Whisk customer for life. I ordered a custom cake for my mom’s 75th birthday. She wanted something special. I ordered a custom cake of cannoli filling with orange cake. They were very helpful over the phone. The cake was decorated really simple and cute. However, the orange cake was incredibly dry and not a lot of flavor. The filling was just ok, not a lot of flavor either. For the price, I would have expected a moist cake. Unfortunately, this isn’t my first negative experience with Whisk. I decided to give them a second chance. The first time I ordered a coconut custard pie. They said they could do this custom order, no problem. Again they are super nice and helpful over the phone which is appreciated. When I picked it up, I found out it was coconut cream, not coconut custard as I ordered. Unfortunately, another disappointing experience for a special birthday. They have great cinnamon rolls and egg burritos but I will not use them any more for special custom...
