Came here for dinner and had one of the most uncomfortable service experiences I have ever encountered. Our server very awkwardly greeted us and asked if she could take our order immediately after sitting down. We hadn't even gotten menus out yet so this was very strange.
She walked away for a second, turned back, and immediately repeated everything she had just said. "welcome to George webb's, I'm such and such, what can I get for you." My friend and I were unsure if this was a poorly played out joke or something. We repeated that we had just sat down and literally had not seen the menu yet.
She came back soon after to drop off some waters. When putting them on the table she loudly sighed and said, "I'm so f**king ready to be done with this" and again asked if we could order. We relented because it was clear we wouldn't be getting more time to look at the food.
I ordered a breakfast combination of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. She immediately asked what kind of toast I wanted, which was confusing since the one I ordered did not have this option. She replied, "oh don't get that one. This other combo is way better and is cheaper." The one she was suggesting did not have pancakes, and she was annoyed when I pointed this out and kept my order the same.
While talking to my friend and waiting for the food, our server returned multiple times to tell my friend that she had nice shoes, ask if she ordered her shoes from Amazon, ask if it was going to snow tomorrow, ask if she lived near lake Michigan because she "has family around there," and to tell my friend that "your curly hair looks great with your super casual clothes." It was again, confusing and awkward.
Dropping our food off, our server loudly yelled "ouch ouch ouch" while carrying the plates over. I'm not sure if she felt they were too hot, or it was unrelated. The food itself was tasty and fairly priced. That's the reason we came in the first place and that was solid as always.
Finally, after we finished eating, we continued talking while we waited for the check. Our server came by and asked if we'd like her to take our plates. We said sure, she stopped to stare at the table, and then said, "actually you're fine" before turning and walking away without taking anything.
I rarely write reviews this long, but this was truly just bizzare and unlike anything else I've experienced in service. I genuinely am unsure of what happened here and will not be returning to...
Read moreAh, George Webb in Wauwatosa—Wisconsin’s answer to the age-old question: “What if Waffle House had a cousin who took night classes in customer service but dropped out halfway through?”
Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about the star of the show: our waitress. We’ll call her Delores, because that feels right. Delores isn’t just a waitress; she’s a one-woman talk show with no commercial breaks. You came here to eat? Cute. Delores came here to discuss. What, exactly? Well, the menu, for starters. But not in the “what would you like?” kind of way—more in the “let me tell you what you should order and also why our omelet choices are a metaphor for my ex-husband” kind of way.
And then there’s the television. Some restaurants keep the volume down, let the ambiance do the work. Not here. The TV is on, and Delores has OPINIONS. Sports? Too loud. News? Too depressing. A rerun of Friends? “Ugh, I never liked Ross.” And just like that, the channel changes, and you, dear customer, are now watching a documentary about the migratory habits of Canadian geese because Delores says, and I quote, “At least they have direction.”
The food? Ah, the food. It’s everything you expect from a place that’s open 24 hours and still somehow makes you wait to be seated. Greasy, satisfying, and roughly the same caliber as what you’d get at a Waffle House, which is to say: delicious at 2 a.m., questionable at noon. The coffee is hot, the hashbrowns are crispy, and the burgers are exactly what they need to be—cheap, tasty, and just mysterious enough to keep things interesting.
And let’s not forget Delores’s passion for A-Treat soda. If you haven’t heard of it, don’t worry—she’ll tell you everything. The history, the flavors, why it’s better than whatever you’re drinking, and how it single-handedly got her through a rough patch in ‘98. She might even pull up a chair and crack one open with you.
Now, let’s talk facilities. The bathrooms? Immaculate. Suspiciously so. You almost feel like you should tip the janitor. And once you do get seated, the service is fast, as if they know you might change your mind if given too much time to think.
George Webb in Wauwatosa: where the prices are great, the food is decent, the service is... an experience, and Delores is both your waitress and your unsolicited life coach. Would I come back? Of course. But next time, I’m bringing...
Read moreOh boy, where to start. It was a Saturday night just before midnight and we were looking for food but pretty much everything else was closed except for this place and the ladies I were with had a few adult beverages and needed some food. This place did not disappoint. Located in a strip mall, we pulled in and the parking lot was pretty empty, we had beaten the drunk rush.... For now. We sat ourselves at the counter and waited for the server to help out the couple with a fairly large to go order. After about 10 minutes of that, he came over to take our order, we all got some breakfast, I got french toast, my GF got an omelette and her friend got eggs with hash browns and sausage patties. Food was actually pretty good, especially considering they are the only game in town, we were pleasantly surprised at the food for the price, there is a slight late night upcharge but no big deal, still good food for the price. Shortly after ordering the drunk rush came in, there were 4 people from a Jimmy Buffet concert that sat next to us, another couple on the other side of us and then another group of 4 sat at a table and a few to go orders came in as well. The staff was definitely overwhelmed at this point and we were glad we got there before the rush, probably tough to staff for overnights, they had 1 server, 1 cook and 1 manager. Just the times we are in now with staffing, but they did what they could given the circumstances and food was good at a decent price. Definitely the go to place after the bars start closing to get some...
