I came across Bitter Sweet Bakery when doing a general search for a cookie cake. A friend from work requested a cookie cake for her birthday and I wanted to make it happen. I did not just want a standard, thin, general decorated mall like cookie cake though. I called Bitter Sweet Bakery twice, then sent an email for my specific request. Went ahead and placed my order online so it was done in a timely manner. My request was for a deep dish Cookie Monster cake (not the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street) but the one from cheddars restaurant. I knew they wouldn’t be able to do Ice cream on top but I was wanting a light frosting that could look like ice cream with chocolate drizzled all over it with real cherries on top. I made my order on Friday needing it for Tuesday the following week. Bitter Sweet bakery closed on Sunday and Monday. I received an email originally stating they could not do my request. I was bummed but at the price of $35 I felt like their cake online would be good too. Had a friend pick up the cake for me, and guys I think I was more excited to see the cake than my friend was! Bitter Sweet Bakery NAILED the image I had in my head!!!! Thank you guys so much for doing such an awesome job! The cake design was perfectly executed and the taste superb. The cookie cake was a deep dish cake and tasted like homemade chocolate chip cookies. Not like the cheap mall cookie. I will forever use you guys as my go to bakery! You have a...
Read moreI really really really wanted to like this business but I just couldn’t. I ordered the valentines cookie cake that said best ** ever and it looked great! No complaints there. While I went to pick up, I decided to get 6 cupcakes as well. The presentation of the store was beautiful and the lady that assisted was nice but the taste was terrible. I got a cupcake for each of my kids, I have 6 and the cookie cake for my husband. My husband said the cookie was just ok but that the frosting was too sweet. Whoever decorated the pink frosting around the cake messed up a lot too. I’m sure it was rushed because of Valentine’s Day but that shouldn’t excuse the quality I received. A lot of the frosting had indentions and they tried to cover them with heavy sprinkles and the spacing wasn’t done well. My fault I should have checked it before I left but it was literally the day of. Anyways, my kids didn’t like the cupcakes. None of them. The red velvet didn’t even taste like red velvet. They were so bland. The only flavoring they had was the frosting. My boys got the strawberry ones with gold on them too and my kids said they tasted like paint. I was highly disappointed. I did give two stars because like I said the presentation of the store did...
Read moreIn rebuttal to the owner's response to my review of Bittersweet, I understand you and the baker do not like my comments about the cake you presented, but it is my opinion. The baker of the cake became extremely defensive and belligerent when I questioned the quality of the cake she presented. It was not made to the specifications we discussed over email and in person. In fact, she never even took part in the discussions. We were BOTH very direct, or "aggressive" to use the owner's term. She did not want to hear my criticism of her cake. It was nothing like what I'd discussed with the girl who took my order. I tried to extend grace, trying to calm her down by touching her shoulder, which she refused and I respected. I had already paid $92.00 for this cake (prices on the website were incorrect, btw) and I had no other alternative as the bridal shower was only a few hours away. All I can say is the bakery is aptly named. If you're going to be in business, you have to realize that not every consumer is going to like your product. And that's our prerogative as consumers. In the end, it's just CAKE....
