Update: In June 2024 I went back with my DIL visiting from OR and she adored this place and was very happy with her food. She kept talking about it all the way back to my house. My GD loved the pancakes --these were a 'kid's portion' but they were huge. The service was excellent and our server very friendly and personable.
My biscuits this time were better. My eggs were cooked correctly this time.
We sat outside and it was pleasant. There also weren't a hoard of people so no waiting and no feeling we were rushed, so it was a more pleasant experience for everyone, servers included!
I added a star for this experience.
After all the glowing reviews, I suppose I should go back and give them another try because I had a different experience. They were very busy but each customer, no matter how busy they are, should receive well-cooked food and have that good experience. I understand when the kitchen is slammed but ... dang ....
On the positive side, the place is well designed, really bright and cute and happy looking, and super clean! The cleanliness really impressed me a lot. Food-wise I guess I went on a bad day so I will give it another go and if it's as all these others are saying, I'll edit my review to reflect that!
But my experience was this: My biscuits were over-cooked and that was okay I suppose, but they tasted like refrigerator or freezer odor and that's not okay. My scrambled eggs were still a little raw in the middle part that was folded over. My fruit was great though; very fresh, and I was happy about that. (My friend's potatoes looked almost burnt but she can do her own review if she likes :D )
Then when my friend was finishing up her coffee, the owner or manager came over and rushed us out--he did do it very politely though - ha! :D.
Look, I understand they want to get to everyone and people were waiting, but dang!, I have a very rare breakfast out and if I want fast food, I'd go to a fast food place.
Maybe...
Read moreSo we've eaten our way from Murphy to Bryson City and were perpetually disappointed until we got as far east as Dillsboro and then things started to look up, especially when found this gem in Waynesville. Shockingly fresh and new on the interior, the pride of ownership and in their work is evident everywhere. The staff are delightful and responsive, owner/manager was hands on and committed to your positive experience, food was quick and most importantly, delectable!! My husband, got the shrimp and grits with fried green tomatoes (hand breaded, not Sysco) and I got the chicken and waffles with blueberry butter that was to die for! I never splurge like that so I was holding my breath that I wouldn't be disappointed ....rather quite the opposite, it was life changing. It was hands down these most chicken breast tenders (clearly buttermilk marinated) over perfectly plump and moist little waffles that made it just the right portion (but generous enough for leftovers). Reasonably priced in terms of prices versus portions these days and plenty of options for your party. The steady flow of people right up through closing is a testament in and of itself as there are plenty of options in Waynesville. The only complaint my husband had was $6.99 for a small Greek side salad that was actually miniscule with about 4 pieces of lettuce, that should be revisited by management. They allow you to pay from your table to expedite getting back on the trail by paying with your phone using a QR code on the check. This will definitely be a staple during our 3 month stay. This is a must stop to refuel...
Read moreExceptionally well prepared food and excellent taste. A few minor critiques, for the moderately high price ($15) lunch the entree portion for country steak was small but taste and quality was very good with very little gristle in country steak. Other minor complaint was iced tea ice was melted and the tea was very watered down nearly clear. The broccolini was a very good side, as was the perfect spinach salad and amazing dressing. The mixed squash side was loaded with peppers and just ok, the peppers were not welcome and degraded the side. The group ordered the lemon blueberry waffles to share and agreed they were phenomenal. For sure I will go back, but be aware seats were all filled shortly after 11am for lunch. Good service after the initial 10 min wait for the male server. Others in the group complemented a salad entree and the creamed corn and fried okra sides. I would like to see what they can do with a hearty side dish like squash casserole or baked macaroni and cheese, perhaps a pickled cucumber and onion salad with the sharp vinegar taste found in the spinach salad dressing. All in all one of the best lunch dinner food experiences I've had in western NC, and I hope to see more locations near Sylva/Bryson city/Franklin soon, we are suffering there. This place sets most restaurants in the area to shame and is the local benchmark others should strive for... I could detect no cheap canned or frozen ingredients anywhere and was very pleased with the overall experience and strongly...
