I’ve never been to a bakery and gotten baked goods, left and ate them, and then immediately came back for more — at least I hadn’t until I stopped into Vanilla Sugar earlier today. The s’mores heart stole my heart, and the cookie cake put me into a sugar-laden trance I couldn’t break. But it was the cinnamon chai that gave me that Watermelon Sugar High.

I normally don’t even like snickerdoodle cookies, but their chai with cinnamon glaze cookie caught my eye in the store. To understate its excellence, this is the best snickerdoodle-esque cookie I’ve ever eaten in my life. The sudden change in texture and consistency from the cinnamon glaze on top to the moist gooeyness of the actual cookie left me in awe the moment after I took my first bite.

After chatting with one of the owners, I learned that the heavenly experiences I always have at Vanilla Sugar are partly thanks to their habit of baking cookies and pastries in smaller increments, and baking more of these increments through the day as they run low on specific items. This not only ensures that everything you get is as fresh as possible, but it also means they’re unlikely to run out of the good stuff just a couple of hours after opening—unlike a lot of other popular bakeries. Plus this place has a happy hour deal on cookies?? Screw the bars, I’m coming here for happy hour.

Taking the entire experience into account, Vanilla Sugar puts out arguably the best cookies in the STL area. Even their basic chocolate cookie had me wondering if it was the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever eaten in my life. In my eyes, Vanilla Sugar goes toe-to-toe with nationally-renowned cookie places in the area like Grandma’s Cookie’s in St. Charles. This is a must-try place for anyone with a hint of a sweet tooth.

Even if you’re more of an Oscar the Grouch when it comes to cookies, you’ll leave as a freshly-minted Cookie Monster once you experience their Vanilla Sugar High.

If you're looking for perfectly soft, crumbly shortbread type cookies expertly frosted and iced into the cutest designs you've ever seen, this is the place for you! I consider myself a bit of a cookie expert because I love cookies more than most people love their children. 😁 I've ordered some really adorable cookies from multiple bakeries, but they weren't the tastiest cookies. I've also ordered really tasty cookies from other bakeries that looked like they were designed by a 5 year old. I've also tried bakeries who didn't have my order ready on the day I needed it, even tho I gave them plenty of advance notice, and other bakeries who very clearly made my order days before or even longer where my order was frozen and stale on pickup. Truth be told - it's not easy to find a reliable, trustworthy, talented bakery with integrity in STL.

If you want delicious cookies that also look amazing, baked by REAL people with integrity, there's only one bakery in the STL area for you - Vanilla Sugar. I've never had even ONE broken, stale, or less than perfect cookie in any of my orders. Every event I take these cookies to becomes a frenzy when I put them out for display, baby showers, Christmas, work meetings, birthdays, they become the star of the show and everyone wants to know where I got them. They're just so perfect and pretty!! You almost don't want to eat them! Kids go nuts trying to pick their favorite and adults are always so surprised by how delicious they are! I have ordered cookies from one of the owners here for years, but I'm so glad to see she has a bakery now and lots of new people can...

Alrightttttt.....friends, its cheat meal and a cookie is just sounding scrumptious but where do you get a GOOD cookie? RIGHT HERE...don't evennnn think about that crummy cookie place (you know who I'm talking about) THIS is where you wanna go. Top notch, 10/10 cookies, the PERFECT bake, overloaded with amazing flavor and plenty of options to choose from along with seasonal flavors like pumpkin...oh mannnn don't even get me started on the pumpkin, wowweeee that one tickled my taste buds. Not to mention it's in a super neat little shop, with extremely kind staff. Do yourself a favor and go there right now and enjoy the best cookie...
