Just saw Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood at The Rep on Webster University’s campus, and wow, I forgot how much I love this space. I went to Webster, so being back on campus always stirs up some nostalgia. The Rep has grown so much since my college days, and it’s honestly amazing to see it thriving. The performance was fantastic, fun, sharp, and surprisingly relevant. The themes landed so well with everything happening in the world right now, but it still kept that humor and heart that makes Robin Hood such a classic. Theater like this reminds me why it’s so important to tell stories, to challenge us, and to reflect what’s going on around us in a way that moves and inspires. I’ve always enjoyed The Rep, but this visit really brought it full circle. If you haven’t been lately, go. Support local theater. It matters.

Had a great time at my first show at The Rep. The lobby was beautifully decorated for the holidays. I do wish the "masked performance" had included the lobby and that snacks had not been served so that folks would stay in their masks, but I understand that's my preference. I just feel that folks see a masks-required performance as safe, and even in the theatre itself, only about 1/3 of people wore masks properly throughout the show. This is vital for immunocompromised and immunocautious folks to know. The play was done quite well, and I had the privilege to meet the director, Hana Sharif, when I stepped outside to order an Uber and the frigid temps caused my phone battery to glitch out and my phone to shut down. She let me back in the building to charge my phone, for which I am forever grateful!

The Rep has long been a St Louis Gem. But like may St Louis Institutions it's not what it used to be. It's had a hard 7 years. The previous director overspent each year's budget by the next year's entire budget, before moving on to "a new opportunity". Then CoVid hit and attendance took a tumble. They fired a very good friend of mine who had worked for the Rep happily for many years in an action that could be viewed as discrimination on the basis of age and disability status. StL Public Radio says the Rep is climbing back out of its hole. We'll see.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Bold New Era at The Rep – Where the Curtain Rises on Innovation, Inclusion, and Impeccable Theatre

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis has always been a cornerstone of artistic excellence in the region, but with the arrival of Danny—the newest and most dynamic addition to The Rep family—and his partner in crime, the ever-talented Kate, the company has entered a thrilling new act.

Together, they have lifted the curtain on a bold, fresh stage (figuratively and literally), reimagining what live theatre in St. Louis can be. Their leadership is magnetic, and it’s no surprise that engagement is up—just like the curtain at the start of every show.

The programming is exceptional: daring, diverse, and beautifully curated. Whether it’s a world premiere, a modern retelling, or a reintroduction of a classic, every production feels relevant, intentional, and infused with heart.

Even more exciting is the evolving audience. The Rep is no longer just a tradition for longtime theatre-goers—it’s becoming a vibrant space that welcomes new patrons, new perspectives, and the next generation of theatre lovers. Danny and Kate are building not just seasons, but community.

What Justin and I especially love is the intimate connection The Rep fosters between the audience and the stage. It’s not just about watching a story unfold—it’s about feeling a part of it. Danny and Kate have elevated that experience, and the result is an atmosphere that’s alive with energy, empathy, and purpose.

If you haven’t already, consider a membership or show your support. This isn’t just another regional theatre—it’s a true gem. And with continued community backing, The Rep will keep producing top-tier, soul-stirring performances for years to come.

Bravo to The Rep—and brava to Danny and Kate for raising the bar and...

The play was called Alabama story it was outstanding. It was an interesting story it was absolutely relevant to the time that we are in now and it was extremely well produced. The set was absolutely wonderful and the story was really good. I'm going back on Monday night they are having an open house with the playwright. This conversation will be free of charge and I am confident very educational. Also had dinner that was somewhat disappointing. The flavor wasn't bad but the food wasn't hot. I should have thought about the possibility that that would be true and ordered a sandwich or or Salad something that didn't require good temperature. After all the food is prepared elsewhere by catering company and brought to the wrap and then kept them warm and served when you arrive. It is not prepared to order and that makes all the difference when you're trying to get food of a certain temperature so I order chicken and that wasn't a good idea. However being able to eat in the lobby of the theater before the show is an excellent idea it is so good to be able to go directly to the theater have you dinner Park once not have to worry about the time and weather that you going to get to the theater in time for the opening depending on service and that...

Go to the theatre! And take someone with you! A friend, a relative, a child! Support one of our local theaters!

There are plenty of great places to eat nearby before the show - The Block, Cyrano's, Serendipity's. It's a good idea to go early because plenty of other people will have the same idea as you and things get crowded and busy. And parking could possibly be a challenge depending on when you go. You can either pay to park in one of the Webster lots or you can try to find a spot on the street.

As far as the show goes, I'm sure you'll see something wonderful! Every production features Equity Actors, most of which are from New York with an occasional local. And they sometimes use Webster Conservatory students as well.

At intermission, grab a treat from the lobby. With Love Catering always has an impressive selection - cookies, brownie/bars, pastries or even bread pudding! There's also wine and...
